QuoteBecause it is not in my nature to "turn Rambo". It never solves a problem.
I never said you would turn Rambo.
QuoteWhat exactly I would have done depends on a bunch of things that we cannot know from the information given. Was there a better exit route that through the van? We don't know.
That's what I've been trying to say. "WE DON'T KNOW" what we would do with that particular given situation.
Quotehave had guns pulled on me before, I didn't shit myself then, I doubt I would now.
As for Amazon, she was a survival instructor (SERE) http://www.gosere.com/fast.html in the Airforce. I kinda doubt she would crap herself either. We also have several police and other armed forces members on this site...I doubt they would wet themselves as well.
Okay aside from you and Amazon and the other trained killers, assinators or murderers on this forum, the rest of us can't say or shouldn't say what we would do if we were in that particular situation. Most people here that posted to this thread are Monday Night Quarterbacking. You cannot say what they did was wrong or what the driver was right or wrong. The case is still pending investigation. Let's put our trust in the justice system and wait to see what evidence is presented in court and what verdict the jury decides on. Let the American Justice System do its part.
Your statement is one of hatred, intolerance, and in general is harmful and condescending.
Do you often call Doctors butchers?
Do you call a Dentist a torturer?
Do you call an Attorney a paid Liar?
If your answer is NO to any of the above maybe you might consider apologizing to anyone you just demeaned.
If your answer is Yes, maybe it is time for you to mature a bit.

It's generally considered impolite to speak for others when voicing a personal opinion.
I believe YOU don't know what YOU would do, you seem to be a bit to emotional to handle a situation like that.
Nothing against you, some can...some can't.

Take it easy there cowboy. I didn't mean it to sound that way.
QuoteDo you often call Doctors butchers?
No, are you calling them that?
QuoteDo you call a Dentist a torturer?
No, do you feel they torture you?
QuoteDo you call an Attorney a paid Liar?
No, do you feel they have lied to you or lied for you?

If I have demeaned anyone, I sincerely apologize. It's sarcasm, which is not unfamiliar with posters here in this forum. I should have worded it differently. My intentions were not meant to demean anyone. I apologize for being untactful.
Why are you speaking for Amazon and Davinci? They have not replied that they were offended by this. They probably have thicker skin than you do. If you lived in NY for 1 year, either your feelings would get severely hurt everyday or you would probably end up punching someone in the face for their hurtful, condescending and sarcastic remarks. We're all grown ups. We all can fight our own battles. We should never take anything personal when posting in these forums. Maybe things are done differently in Chicago but we don't walk around broken eggshells with anyone in NY. I'm sorry if you feel differently than I do but in NY it's all about having "THICK SKIN". Now, let's put our focus back on the subject at hand: Let the American Justice System do it's thing and let's put all of our trust in it!
QuoteI believe YOU don't know what YOU would do, you seem to be a bit to emotional to handle a situation like that.
What I meant to say is that the rest of us shouldn't say what we could, would or should have done. Many different factors can dictate how one handles a situation, no matter if they're trained in high stress situations or not. A death in the family, a bad break up, a bad day at work, having a heated argument, being intoxicated etc. All those additional factors can dictate how a person will react to a high stress situation, trained or not trained, it's part of being human.

Hey, I know for a fact that I shouldn't say how I will react to a given situation until it's actually presented to me at that given moment. And by that time, my head would probably be blown off. I'm not a robot. We are not robots.

Yeah I am easily offended
I was just making you aware that some people can really be hurt by calling them such things, that was my only point.
I am not sure if you ever met an older veteran who has become remorseful of what they have been forced to do as a younger person on behalf of their country.
They can be pretty upset by things (PTSD)?
QuoteI was just making you aware that some people can really be hurt by calling them such things, that was my only point.
I hear ya man but you're not doing anyone a favor. You're speaking for them on their behalf and I'm sure they don't even want you to do that for them. They're both mature adults. Everyone here is an adult. They can fight their own battles. You don't need to play sheriff for them. If I had demeaned them, let them take it up with me.
QuoteI am not sure if you ever met an older veteran who has become remorseful of what they have been forced to do as a younger person on behalf of their country.
Forced to do as a younger person???? Dude, why would you even think of it that way? Are you bitter or angered towards the gov't or the military?
They did their rightful duty and they served their country! I'm grateful to all of them past and present! I support them! Regardless of what they had to do, they served their country! They need more support. They don't need you feeling sorry for them for "being forced" to do something on behalf of their country when they were younger. This is how it's been for hundreds of years my friend. Time for you to come out of your sheltered life and wake up now! This is how our world today is!
Edit to add: You need to come out to NY and stay a while to toughen up a bit.
Bye bye.
QuoteJust go on taking shit out of context, in fact have a conversation all by yourself.
You're not innocent of taking shit out of context either, my friend.
Look, I'm not here to make enemies, okay? I'm not trying to insult you. If I did, I apologize. I was just busting your balls. NY'ers tend to go a little overboard when it comes to busting balls. That's what we do best!

Quote. How would you react if a guy tried to run you down with a car and you were a cop? I know you will claim to "follow SOP's", but in reality don't you think THEY would have said the same thing?
I've seen video of cops jumping in front of fleeing cars to stop them then using deadly force when the cars didn't stop or moved slightly from stationary, or gunned the engine out of gear. Basically the police tried to create a pretext for shooting a suspect. This is a clear abuse of SOPs that they routinely get away with and one of the reasons LA recenty changed it's policy.

QuoteTo everyone whos sitting at their desk quietly debating what they would do in that situation clearly doesn't understand the dynamic nature of a situation like that. You don't have the luxuary of thinking things through and you react almost instinctively. Add to that you believe someone is trying to kill or seriously hurt you (even if the belief is incorrect) and it can become very irrational.
Right on the money Scoop!

QuoteSame over here, if we get the shit kicked out of us, very rare for any serious conviction. But if we are found guilty of excessive force we'd lose our jobs, receive a stiff penalty and be publically humiliated by the media as some sort of public relations exercise.
I totally feel what you're saying bro. I got the crap kicked out of me a few months ago by a store robber. I got him but I got the crap kicked out of me in the process. The guy only got 30 days in jail while I had to recover for 3 weeks at home because of my injuries and administrative duty for another 3 weeks. It's okay though. I really don't care because my job was done. I'm just grateful to be alive.

QuoteHow about we afford the officers the same presumption of innocence that everyone else in this country gets until an investigation is completed.
Amen to that!

QuoteIf, someday, I am in my car, trying to leave the area of a bar fight, and someone in street clothes runs into the street and points a gun at me - I am going to run them over. I'd rather be wrong and alive than careful and dead.
Realistically, you'd be dead anyhow. Bullets are way much faster than cars are. If you're trying to stay alive, your best bet would be to take cover.

QuoteDude, unless you're privvy to the entire police report, all eyewitness testimony, and all empirical evidence, you're not in a position to conclude this.
Let the courts sort this out. Stay dispassionate about it. We have a system for handling these things.
Cheers to you for having such a good head on your shoulder, bro!

You're a clown. I hope your joking and not being naive bro. It was the day before his wedding not the day of.

I would try to get out of the way of the vehicle. Shooting the driver just leaves a possible runaway vehicle.
You think the cops in this case didn't think of that as well? Simple fact is that when actually in that kind of situation you can't think clearly.

Or maybe the police got caught up in trying to "serve and protect"? Ever been driving and had to stop short? Did you throw your arm up to protect the passenger from the dash (Maybe to cop a feel on a hottie )? That is an automatic reaction, your arm would not really do anything in a crash, but you do it anyway.
The cops might step in front of a car since that is where the best shot (not safest for them) can be taken. The target is moving at you so you don't have to lead and it is getting bigger so you don't have to rush the shot. Also, the chance of a miss flying through the car and hitting someone is less.
Point is that people often make automatic moves to do what they think is right. You amy think they stepped in front so they can claim they were in danger (possible, but stupid to do). While I would think they just got caught up and tried to stop the suspect.
I applaud you Sir!
Caution: some day others may learn as well.
