A non-confrontational approach generally works best. If the person isn't receptive (rare) then the nasty prick in me must step forward.

Sometimes their risk management skills are pretty weak, but rarely are they intending to put others in harm's way. Anger is a pretty lame way to improve safety.

Worth repeating. Thanks, Tom. Yelling at people in public rarely teaches anything and fosters resentment instead of learning. The quiet, private approach seems to work best for 90% of the people. :)

the original plan was for tom to dump higher (5k) next to me so he could see me fall away. we changed it to keep it simple and safe, glad we changed the plan!

im should be going back to the DZ soon and will talk with him if he is there or the CCI. thanks for the replies, sorry for the drunken post...:P

im not sure if i made it clear that the guy asked me to join the jump on the ground probably an hour before we went. spoke to him and forgot him. thinking about it, i dont think i even recongised him on the plane so i wasnt looking out for him as a possible danger.

I would be very pissed about that person. How did he know you did not brief that one of you pulls a bit higher before the other tracks away? He would not have been prepared for that.

Scary story!
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

I am gonna make an assumpton here based on the fact that you are a student and from Bristol (my girlfriends home town) that you were jumping at Nethers.

If I am wrong let me know where (by PM if necessary) as I probably know the CCI any way.

I have just left the Army and my last post was as an instructor at Nethers, so I know the staff and a lot of the jumpers and act as CCI there myself on occasion.

What the other jumper did was without a doubt stupid, not just because he may be low experience but also he was unaware of your level of competance.

Next time you are at the DZ give me a shout, just ask anyone (esp the manifest ladies) who Buzz is and they should be able to put you in my direction.

I am more than happy to have a word with this guy and let him know the dangers of doing what he did, as he could do that to someone else who may not be as heads up as you.

If you are there this weekend look out for me, Ill be doing tandems or camera and am pretty easy to spot being 6' 2" and 245lbs.

It is important that we nip this in the bud.

Remember safety is not a dirty word, unlike gusset :)

Steve Jelf is the CCI at Cerney, a top bloke dont be worried by the fact that he makes the Rock l;ook small.

Failing that if Clarkey is the (skinny runt with glasses) speak to him.

Tell the guys at SC I said Hi.

BTW why dont you jump at Nethers???

i will defnitely speak to steve when im there next, i know what you mean about the rock comment!

ive got a bunch of bulk tickets to cerney. ive jumped at nethers a few times (ive still got a ticket for there floating around i think), nethers is a wicked DZ, i just cant justify jumping elsewhere when i have 20 tickets waiting to be used at cerney plus saving for the empuria xmas boogie.

cheers for the info though

:)
