billvon 3,070 #712 January 15, 2007 >Refer to post # 696 for my explanation of why I think the Apostles were different. I read it and I don't see much difference. Let's look at the 9/11 hijackers. Nineteen Muslims died martyrs deaths based on their belief in their god and their desire to stop the evil forces trying to crush that religion (at least in their mind.) What did they see and what would cause them to believe enough to sacrifice their own lives for their cause? You’d be hard pressed to find any number of people - much less nineteen - who would be willing to die for a lie if they knew it to be a lie. That does not mean they were right, just that they believed their cause to be true and just. We think they were wrong. That didn't stop them from becoming martyrs. Given the situation the world is in right now, I would be very leery of equating the number of people willing to martyr themselves to the validity of that religion. They saw for themselves the torture, crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. That is the evidence on which they based their beliefs. That is the reason they were willing to die the way they did because they would not deny what they saw or speak about it. That is the reason why some took it to the extreme by requesting to be crucified head down because they didn’t feel worthy to die the way their Lord had died. How do you know, YOU DONT KNOW FACT you simply cant because there is no "evidence. NCclimber 0 #715 January 16, 2007 QuoteQuoteAnd by the way, you still haven't answered my question from last week: Could you be mistaken in your presupposition about the non-existence of God and/or the supernatural? You also made the claim that a supernatural explanation for Christ's empty tomb isn't necessary; I asked you for your explanation, but you never gave it. Yes I did. LOL. Classic! Why go to the trouble of showing where you answered a question, when a simple "Yes I did" will do. It reminds me of: QuoteA: Come in. M: Ah, Is this the right room for an argument? A: I told you once. M: No you haven't. A: Yes I have. M: When? A: Just now. M: No you didn't. A: Yes I did. M: You didn't A: I did! M: You didn't! A: I'm telling you I did! M: You did not!! A: Oh, I'm sorry, just one moment. Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour? M: Oh, just the five minutes. A: Ah, thank you. Anyway, I did. M: You most certainly did not. A: Look, let's get this thing clear; I quite definitely told you. M: No you did not. A: Yes I did. M: No you didn't. A: Yes I did. M: No you didn't. A: Yes I did. M: No you didn't. A: Yes I did. M: You didn't. A: Did. M: Oh look, this isn't an argument. A: Yes it is. M: No it isn't. It's just contradiction. A: No it isn't. M: It is! A: It is not. M: Look, you just contradicted me. A: I did not. M: Oh you did!! A: No, no, no. M: You did just then. A: Nonsense! M: Oh, this is futile! A: No it isn't. M: I came here for a good argument. A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument. M: An argument isn't just contradiction. A: It can be. M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition. A: No it isn't. M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction. A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position. M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.' A: Yes it is! M: No it isn't! A: Yes it is! M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
