Amazon 7 #26 January 29, 2007 QuoteI don't believe global warming is occuring to the extent we are or have been led to believe. This planets survived periods as a big ball of ice and as a firey volcanic mass. Its all part of the seasons of the planet. It will do just fine no matter what we throw at it. Whether our actions are acting as a catalyst for change and whether or not we survive is another matter altogether I would dare say.. that life would be difficult under either scenario.... but most on this site are far younger than I am.. and if you want to live on a vastly changed planet where the Ozone layer is gone and going outside during the day is certain to give you a dose of radiation that will give you cancer.... and that level of Ultraviolet is killing off plant species and beneficial insects that help polinate the plants that we depend on for food.. and sea level is 40 ft higher than now.. and the weather has changed drastically.. well then go for it... but you are dooming millions to live it with you.. or die with you.. I will be gone.
1969912 0 #27 January 30, 2007 About the same as I felt about Paul Ehrlich's "Population Bomb". I was about 11 YO then; looks like I've not grown up much. EDIT: Perhaps that was too cryptic; I thought the "Population Bomb" was Bravo Sierra until proven otherwise. GW seeems eerily reminiscent. Life will surely survive a rise in temperature and sea levels; it just might not be the best situation for us. From a purely financial point of view, it may be worth spending billions now to save trillions later. Depends on your investment horizon, of course, and most people don't plan beyond about ten years - so whatever happens after 2017 is of no consequence to them. Red_Skydiver 0 #29 February 1, 2007 QuoteI've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't believe global warming is occuring to the extent we are or have been led to believe. Whether our actions are acting as a catalyst for change and whether or not we survive is another matter altogether But isn't that the point of the debate? To what extent are our actions acting as a catalyst and are we able to survive? Will our lifestyle in the west be able to continue and if not they how can we adapt? How will we feed ourselves if the worlds crops start failing due to climate change?
Red_Skydiver 0 #30 February 1, 2007 the IPCC are due to publish their next report tomorrow and I understand there will be a revision to the likely temperature increase.
