U.S. tourist kills mugger with bare hands

Recommended Posts

Senior citizens with bare hands vs 3 likely younger criminals with deadly intent armed with 2 knives and gun.

Waiting to see who bashes the 70 year olds........

Oh ok, well you can just give up your wallet and then be shot if that is what you prefer.

And here I thought that if people were pointing a gun at me were planning to kill me.

I forgot they were only asking for donations for a orphanage.:S

In fairness Kamikaze82's argument does have merit. While I would kill in a heartbeat if my life depended on it, I might be inclined to try the passive approach if I felt the guy only wanted my wallet. If it seems that the guy simply wants the money and will leave if he gets it, then for the $40-$60 I have in my wallet I would rather not risk my life, he can have it. Not to mention his actions could have had consequences for other people in the group. If I had my wife with me then my decision would be based on which option caused her the least risk. If it costs me $50 bucks to get her and I out of danger then it's a bargain. That said if I felt that he was going to do harm anyway then I would have to attack. I would have to know exactly how the events transpired there before I could say whether or not I would have made the same decision.
My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

But Randall is talking about the value of HIS life.

Fair enough, I shouldn't project my risk limitations on others. I am just not the overly heroic type, so I will not be inclined to take a risk unless I absolutely have to. I am not an experienced street fighter so if I tried to take a weapon out of someones hands I would very likely get injured.

I understand your point of view, to me when someone is threatening you with a weapon I can't tell when they only want money and mean no violence harm.

The threat of physical harm that the weapon represents has pretty much already made a statement.

I guess it comes down to personal choice. I disagree with criticising the senior citizen in the article because he may very well have felt it neccessary, but then I still do not know enough about the situation to say he made the right call. I will generally make the resist/submit decision based on which seems most likely to get me out alive at the time.
