Billionaires/Billions in Poverty

Recommended Posts

There are now 946 billionaires in the world with a combined worth of over 3.5 Trillion US$.

At the same time, there are 2.7 Billion people living on less than $2 a day.

Draw your own conclusions.....

My conclusons are...

There's at least 946 people willing to work for the money.

Some people CAN'T work and have little chance in becoming a billionaire.

Some people LIKE living in poverty.

$2/day is good to go in some countries (unfortunately, not this one).

Some people need to get off their ass and MOVE.

Such is life as we know it.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

Applying your point of view as a citizen of one of the wealthiest nations on the planet to a global problem that encompasses the poorest nations on the planet really is the height of ignorance and arrogance.

As we know it?

What is your experience of living in, say, a Sudanese refugee camp? Or maybe a famine struck Ethiopian village?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

And if we took all the money from all the billionaires and divided it equally among all the poor living on less than $2 a day, we would have 2,700,000,946 people living on less than $2 a day.
Just imagine how much money those undeserving rich people would have if they hadn't paid disproportionately high tax rates.;)

Actually, you could give every person on the planet living under $2 a day a lump sum of $1296, or the equivalent of nearly 2 year income.

What's your point?

Isn't it obvious? The gap between the super rich and horribly poor in the world is growing faster than ever in human history. As a small group at the top amasses fortunes they could not possibly spend in 20 lifetimes, a huge group of people cannot afford a handful of rice a day.

That's my point.

Problem is that you're writing it on a board that is visited by largely Americans, the richest country on the planet...... falling on deaf ears

Is your point just to notice the difference between these two groups or to describe a causal link?

So far you haven't said anything about the rich CAUSING poverty. Would you like to draw out some argument that connects them or should we just marvel at the contrasts?

I'm also starting to feel like skydivers are, or can be, some cold hearted people! I'm sure that's not true, but man, it really seems that way sometimes.

For the most part, the rich do not cause poverty, and in many cases they help solve the problem. At the same time, the rich often take advantage of the less fortunate in the form of child labor, slavery, sweat shops, and pittance wages paid to 3rd world workers.

There are a whole lot more poor people than billionaires.

I bet the WORLDS rate of medical coverage is worse.

Much as you hate the US, this was about the WORLD.
