You will find that we will be right back where we are now with about 10% having 90% of the wealth. Why?? Because some people are smarter than others. Wanna get rich?? Work Hard, Use your Brain, Quit Bitchin and Realize that YOU and ONLY YOU are responsible for YOUR success and/or failure. Go shout "Work Hard!" to a starving baby in Africa and see how well it works. Brains account for a portion of wealth, but those with a higher jumping off point have an inherent advantage. Also, I don't want to get rich. I am perfectly comfortable and happy. Will I take a raise? Sure. But getting rich is not my ambition. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

I thought that with all of those handouts people would just sit around and collect welfare. Yes, they can still produce billionairres - just far less that capitalist countries would. Meanwhile, you STILL have, as you admitted, "billions" in poverty. So instead of having more room and spaces for upward mobility, you have more poor and generally equal misery. dorbie 0 #84 March 9, 2007 Speaking generally, wealth is created, not taken or stolen. If wealthy nations had no interraction with some random country out there it would get poorer not wealthier by just about any useful metric. You can't have it all ways, implicitly blaming the wealthier societies for poverty while simultaneously insisting that they cannot have any say in the internal affairs of others. If you have a solution then offer it, but the reality is there's no simple path to eliminate poverty, it takes generations of effort, education, economic growth and is fraught with risk and forces actively opposing it (like the ignorance shown in this thread). Systems that have tried a quick fix have merely led to universal misery.

Funny enough quite a few of those European countries have higher worker productivity than the US. Not only are those socialists not sitting at home collecting welfare, they are working harder than the capitalist worker in the US. Edited to add: And oddly enough, those workers in the US are getting paid more for less work one of the reasons you see a fair bit of outsourcing happening. But alas, it's the Big Oil CEOs, NOT the rig workers, who make the real money. This ties in to the earlier post about 946 people who are willing to work for the money. Those at the bottom who literally scrape by squeezing blood out of stones work harder than most anyone else. But someone lied to them early on by telling them hardwork pays off. It might pay off, but it doesn't pay well. Work smarter, not harder. And then again, that doesn't even factor in for evironmental circumstances. Regardless, you're not going to see a wealthy diamond miner in South Africa. And hell, as far as "disproportionate tax rates are concerned"... the rich pay more in taxes because, IMO, they benefit the most from the society they support.
