Darius11 12 #2 March 23, 2007 It looks like they were suspicious and the Iranian Navy investigate like any other navy would have. when there are sailors from other countries around sensitive locations you should check it out, and then when it was determined they had no ill intention they were released.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

Andy9o8 2 #4 March 23, 2007 Same thing happened in 2004 when some Brit sailors accidentally strayed into Iranian territorial waters. Iranians held them for a few days, then cut 'em loose. That narrow little waterway is divided between Iraqi and Iranian territorial waters. The Brits are authorized by the Iraqi govt to patrol and conduct ship boardings in Iraqi waters. In all likelihood, either the Brits or the Iranians on the scene miscalculated the boarded ship's position relative to the border-line by a few hundred meters. It happens. I'd be surprised if this doesn't blow over in a couple days, unless someone makes it into a dick-swinging contest.

Andy9o8 2 #6 March 23, 2007 Update: QuoteThe British party was surrounded by six vessels from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Naval Corps and were told they were in Iranian waters, though British officials say they were actually in Iraqi waters, according to CNN. ...which supports my guess that each party thought they were on opposite sides of the line. QuoteI know one dick who will probably sieze this opportunity to start shit. Yeah. Well, Ahmadenijad rather enjoys pushing the Allies' hot buttons, much like Hugo Chavez. And Bush desperately needs a dog to wag right now, but this more the Brits' dog in the fight. Time to make some popcorn and watch.
Darius11 12 #7 March 23, 2007 Yes I believe in the article that was sent to me it was stated that it was determined that the sailors had no ill intent and were to be released.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
