GQ_jumper 4 #1 March 30, 2007 I'm trying to find if anyone makes an ammo carrier that is compatible with a rail system. I'm going to replace the forward grip on my shotgun from the factory one to a Picatinny rail system so I can throw a taclite on it and I wanted to see if I could also add a round carrier. Here's the rail system I'm getting...... Surefire Any one know of a company that makes 'em?History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. jm951 0 #2 March 31, 2007 Are you wanting to mount the ammo on the rail or receiver? There's a very nice setup for the receiver made specifically for 3 gun competition that's quite fast. It has 5 on the receiver and two mounted on the forward part of the receiver.
GQ_jumper 4 #3 March 31, 2007 I already have 6 mounted on the reciever, I was trying to find something for the forward rail. I'm trying to have two seperate places to store rounds on it so I can seperate lethal and non-lethal rounds a bit more.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Kennedy 0 #4 March 31, 2007 What do you use for less lethal rounds? (be careful with the phrase nonlethal)witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
LouDiamond 1 #5 March 31, 2007 My question is how do you figure on holding the weapon comfortably if you are able to install a round holder? There is not a lot of real estate once the rail system is installed to put a round holder, especialy if you put a taclite on one side of it. I think you would have to use a vertical grip to do what you are asking and even then, I think having rounds hanging off the front of the gun would be cumbersome if not impractical. If you want to go with two different load types I would suggest going with one of those forearm round holders or even a butt stock round holder on the weak side of the buttstock. Hell, even a round holder on the front of your vest would be better than adding more weight to your boom stick IMO."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

Quote I just wanted to try a few different things, as of now I have a 6 round holder on the reciever. I carry 00B and and Slugs on the front of my vest. I don't have a specified place for my breaching rounds yet and would like to have one to carry some extras and still be able to seperate the buisness rounds though.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Easy fix then. If you know you're going to be breaching a lot, a simple shotgun shell dropbag attached to your vest is the best choice as you an fill it as much as you need and its quick. When not in use you can either remove it or use it as a dump pouch for your M4 mags. There are even ones out there that roll up when not in use so you could leave it hooked to the vest or you can put it on your pistol belt and use it as a general purpose bag for all your mags, door charges or for flex cuffs when it doesn't have shells in it."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
 GQ_jumper 4 #8 April 1, 2007 I actually have no open place on the front of my rig. I don't wear a vewt its a plate carrier so space is limited. My waist is occupied by my sidearm and spare mags for that and I've gotten away from drop leg rigs after my last two trips out here. I'm just trying to be creative and explore options so I figured I'd give that a try, like you mentioned though, I wasn't sure how much room I'd have on the grip if there was something like that on it. I used to have a little velcro rig that went on the front of a blackhawk vest that held 12G rounds, maybe I could digone of those up and put it on my sleeve pocket.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Well I am sure you wear a pants belt, so you could always attach the drop bag to your belt behind your spare mags on your hip if and when you need it. This is assuming you tuck your top in. Eisenhower
 steve1 5 #11 April 2, 2007 I like the idea of having extra ammo handy, but if you add too much weight onto your weapon it might not be as quick and handy as it should be. In a close quarters shootout, where a shotgun would be deadly, I'd want a weapon that would point very quickly. Fractions of a second could decide who lives and who dies. That's why I think it might be wise not to add any weight onto your 870 that you don't absolutely need. Shotgun rounds are light, but they do add up, when you consider an extended magazine, and extra rounds on the butt, and receiver, and possibly someplace else. I know extra carriers are popular for combat work and even hunting, but I sometimes wonder how wise this is. But then, what do I know? I've never been in a shootout in my life, and I hope it never happens. I have done a lot of hunting though. I used to put a few extra rounds on the butt of my shotgun when pheasant hunting. I quit doing that though, because I think I can get a shot off a little more quickly with a slightly more streamlined weapon. I used to have a sling on the 870 shotgun also, but took it off too, because I think I can be just a little faster and little more accurate without it. I just like the feel and ballance better without anything on it. Pheasants explode out of the brush and you have to be quick on the trigger if you want more than one shot, or more than one rooster. Just my two cents worth....Steve1
 GQ_jumper 4 #12 April 3, 2007 I like the idea of having extra ammo handy, but if you add too much weight onto your weapon it might not be as quick and handy as it should be. It can't get much ligter, even with all the extra ammo it's still light. The shotgun is only for breaching though, I transition back to my long gun before I step in the room(there's a few exceptions to that however). The extra ammo is definitely needed though, theres times where you find yourself starting off with just one house to clear and it turns into ten houses and a bunch of outlying sheds, each one with a locked front gate and door.
