beowulf 1 #2 April 16, 2007 20 killed is what the headline says, but reading the article it says one dead and 20 wouned. Right now I think it is too early to know what the real count is. It is probably too chaotic for any accurate assesments.
Scoop 0 #3 April 16, 2007 I fucking hate the media... so quick to get to these things like vultures. Does it really matter that people see whats going on as its happening or shortly after or could it wait a few days when the facts are known... really!? billvon 2,990 #4 April 16, 2007 >Does it really matter that people see whats going on as its happening >or shortly after or could it wait a few days . . . From what I've seen, people demand to know immediately, and will turn off any channel that is not reporting what they want to see. As usual, the problem is us. The media is merely giving us what we want. We see this all the time in the Incidents forum. People want to know RIGHT NOW who was involved, what the canopy loading was, were they under the influence, what altitude they pulled at etc. This gets so bad that when we delete irrelevant posts (like "that DZO is a jerk") we get accused of censorship, and are asked why we are "covering up" a deadly incident. kallend 2,026 #6 April 16, 2007 At Least 20 Killed in Virginia Tech Shooting By Robert E. Pierre Washington Post Staff Writer Monday, April 16, 2007; 12:48 PM At least 20 people were killed this morning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University after a shooting spree at two buildings on the campus. The unidentified shooter was among the dead, according to officials, who also said that several were injured in the shootings, at West Ambler Johnston, a dormitory, and Norris Hall, which houses the College of Engineering. Authorities said the first shooting was reported shortly after 7 a.m. "We have a ballpark figure on fatalities," Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum, said at a news conference broadcast by CNN. "It's at least 20 fatalities." Flinchum said he did not know whether the shooter was a student. Some of those killed were in a classroom, he said. "Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," Virginia Tech president Charles Steger said at a news conference. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified that this would befall us."... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. kallend 2,026 #9 April 16, 2007 QuoteWe got all got an email from President Steger,... he says we have 22 dead (including the shooter)... there's 28 in hospitals throguhout the county... so sad BLACKSBURG, Va., , April 16, 2007 (UPI) -- A gunman opened fire on the Virginia Tech campus Monday, killing at least 22 people and injuring 28 others, campus officials in Blacksburg, Va., said. Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said relatives of the "multiple fatalities" were being notified as officials worked to identify the dead and injured from at least two shooting incidents in a residential dorm and a building used for engineering classes. Steger told a news conference he was "shocked and horrified" by the tragedy that began to unfold with a call to campus police at 7:15 a.m. local time reporting the first wave of shootings. Police were on the scene of the shootings in West Ambler Johnston Hall when about two hours later the second wave of shootings was reported at Norris Hall, Steger said. The majority of dead were killed in a classroom, police said. The gunman was among the dead, but it was not immediately known if he died by his own hand, police said. Students were told to stay in dorms and university buildings away from windows and all entrances to the campus were closed off by authorities, the university Web site said. Classes were canceled through Tuesday.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Lucky... 0 #11 April 16, 2007 Quotei think its 32 so far... this is the saddest thing.. it's uncomprehensible And t thnk it could have been worse..... fortunatley these assfucks aren't well organized, or it could be well into 3 digits. Go to a major campus between classes and there are hundreds of students walking down the outside walkways, a derranged fuck could kill over 100 by himself....scary shit. People just seemed to be interested in stats and until it is clear whether or not he shot himself, they don't know where to include that death.

It's a shame that you weren't personally effected by this so that you could understand just how fucking stupid it is to feel like society needs guns. We need guns like we need a massacre like this in every community. Oh.. sorry.. you probably hunt and are worried about personal security. What the fuck ever. I'm worried about innocent people being fucking killed because some jackass feels he is sooooo all important that he needs to have firepower. Give me a fucking break. This is my hometown. I was born and raised in Blacksburg. I've hated guns my entire life. I'm sure the innocent people that were killed would wish that this guy hadn't been able to get his hands on guns. Don't even fucking talk about whoring the deaths of innocents. Guns are bullshit. Get rid of them.
