wmw999 2,447 #26 April 17, 2007 QuoteJeffrey Dahmer killed people & ate part of their bodies. Do we then say that our society is too permissive on cannibalism?? I used to be on an email list with someone who met him a number of times in prison (she was a death penalty appeal lawyer at the time). She said he was the most mentally ill person she ever met. Not that it made it OK. She saw no reason for him to be in society ever again. The same for most of the people she defended. But she also said that the amount of active abuse many of them had suffered, or the degree of mental illness, was such that it was hard to say they ever had a chance of being normal members of society. Again -- no desire to have them free. But we don't always hold the same criteria up for everyone. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

There used to be state mental hospitals where people could be sent when they were off their freakin rockers.. but instead.... since so many conservatives in the Reagan Era did not want to foot the bill for others who need help in life.... the hospitals have been closed to save money...instead they live amoung us.. as street people. But if you want to follow me around trolling you go right ahead.

We couldnt get 4 people on the earth before we started murdering each other. If you are an evolutionist, we need to ban rocks because there was a rash of Cavemen Murders in the Paleocavelithic era. Murder - So easy a caveman could do it. Dont blame spears, rocks, guns, knives. If someone wants to kill someone, they will find a way. carry a bag of stone across a campus without anyone noticing, execute most in a class room so quickly and easly about noone can move or utter even a scream before they drop dead, and do that without any prior practice. Quite a talent in stone throwing I would say. Since that is impossible to do, are you saying that no one should be allowed to own guns, because of what they "might" do in the future?
moodyskydiver 0 #37 April 18, 2007 QuoteKallend:Society is at fault for allowing crazy people to obtain lethal weapons. I have been diagnosed Type II Bipolar.Do you think society should let me have a gun?Well, they did.I'm a CHL holder and carry a Norinco 1911A1 .45. Is the world gonna collapse b/c I have a gun?I doubt it.Its not like theyre handing out guns at the pharmacy to everyone with a mental illness.I busted my ass and went through 6 months worth of reviews, medical records, doctor information, medication info. letters from the state Medical Advisory Board with questionaires for me and my doctor etc etc. Most CHLs are awarded within 60 days.Mine took 6 months. So I dont really think society is just passing weapons out to any "crazy" person they find. You should atleast determin what your definition of "crazy" or "mentally ill" are before you start taking away civil liberties. If you think I'm 'crazy' b/c I have a mental disorder then I'd love to meet you and let you decide for yourself. Also, if 'crazy' people (as you describe I'm partly one of them) should be allowed to obtain dangerous weapon, then what about my skydiving? You can kill people jumping too right? You are replying to a quote from kallend, but you did it by responding to a message from me. I just want it to be clear that I did not say that quote, and I am not the person with whom you have a disagreement. Heck, I even put the name of the person in each quote, so it would be clear who said what in that chain of three messages. And you had to remove that name in order to compose your message as you did. No problem now - I've made it clear to set the record straight.

billvon 2,991 #40 April 18, 2007 >I have been diagnosed Type II Bipolar.Do you think society should let me have a gun? Depends on the illness. I think you'd agree that a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic should not be able to legally buy a weapon. At one end of the extreme, you could make the call by asking whether a person's disease ever makes them irrational or not responsible for their actions. At the other extreme, you could look at the results of having people with X mental disease carry weapons. If they tend to murder people a lot more often, perhaps not such a good idea to sell them weapons.
