SkymonkeyONE 4 #2 April 19, 2007 Sure, why not. It shows everyone what a fucking nut job he was that way there is no way in the world that anyone could possibly have any sympathy towards him.
BillyVance 34 #3 April 19, 2007 I agree with Chuck. As far as this thread content goes, isn't it SC material?"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

SkydiveJack 1 #5 April 20, 2007 QuoteI agree with Chuck. As far as this thread content goes, isn't it SC material? I thought about SC but I also thought there would be a larger base of people here in Bonfire. Mods, if you think this is in the wrong place, please move it. freeflybella 0 #6 April 20, 2007 I voted NO. It added nothing. We all knew he was a nutjob. There will still be people who sympathize with him. NBC allowed him to have the last jab. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

SkydiveJack 1 #11 April 20, 2007 I didn't state my position when I started this poll. I think it was wrong for them to show it. Why did he send it to a major network? Because he wanted it to be shown. Now in death he has gotten his way. Basically NBC and all the other networks and newspapers that have shown the video and pictures let him win! And now that it is out there in the main stream media, other potential mass murderers might think they can get their 15 minutes of fame. And I see it going this way.... A sick mind will now take the time to make a more polished "media manifesto". Yes, the news media has blessed it with a name and the bar has been set. Now this person goes to the Post Office and does a simple, easy thing. They just calmly send it out. But now they are committed. For the most part they will not be able to change their mind at the last minute. The dye is cast and the carnage begins. For those who think that seeing the Virginia Tech murder's video has and will bring some understanding and closure to the loved ones of the victims I say this. Let those who want to see it view it privately. Showing it to the whole world has most likely opened Pandora’s Box.

masterrig 1 #15 April 20, 2007 I don't see a problem with NBC showing parts of that video. Rosie O'Donnell can kiss my rock-hard buns! The whackos of the world are going to do what they are going to do. I think that trying to blame T.V, movies, rap or news video is wrong. In most cases, all the signs were there but, noone paid attention. Chuck
Armour666 0 #16 April 20, 2007 the more we know of the people that do these things the more people will see the impending signs. There have been a number of cases where it's been called an overreaction but there have been several cases where some one was stoped befor they were to carry out thier plan.SO this one time at band camp..... ErricoMalatesta 0 #17 April 20, 2007 Quote Well? Your question is based on ethics and that isn't how NBC work so the question is pointless. They air it like they air anything that’s entertaining, for profit.
shermanator 4 #18 April 20, 2007 it is what he wanted, so in the end , he got exactly what he wanted. sure, not a problem with them showing it, but to the degree they did was rediculous. it was played on every station, every 3 minutes, and i am sick of hearing about it at this point. ErricoMalatesta 0 #19 April 20, 2007 Quoteit is what he wanted, so in the end , he got exactly what he wanted. Like I said, big business doesn't work on ethics. You raise a good point and I think a strong case could be made for never showing any of it which would in effect not have him win that final bit of his plan. That isn't how it goes but Quotesure, not a problem with them showing it, but to the degree they did was ridiculous. it was played on every station, every 3 minutes, and i am sick of hearing about it at this point. I listen to talk radio, and i can't even listen to that anymore, because all they talk about is this thing. From watching a friends pay-tv/cable-tv I got the impression you also got a solid three weeks of Anna Nicole Smith too. If you want news you will have to look for it, if you want propaganda keep the TV on.
PLFXpert 0 #20 April 20, 2007 In general, if it doesn't pose a threat to national security I want it shown, published & talked about. Of course, unfortunately there are some depressed, impressionable young people who will see the photos, think Seung-Hui looks "cool" and will potentially want to emulate him. But photos, video or not, such troubled souls would likely do so anyways. They merely need the suggestion. One must understand, like anything else, for all people who will do good with this information, there are some that will do equal and opposite bad with it. Often one must accept the possibility of the bad in hopes of doing greater good. And again, in my opinion, the potential emulators would still be motivated regardless of if the photos & video were never shown. I don't have any issues with those who do not want to see it. They don't have to watch it. I have an issue with those who presume to think they should decide for me whether I should see it or not. NBC aired it b/c they choose not to make a decision for me, but rather allow me the freedom to make the decision to view or not to view myself. By showing it, the murderer doesn't "win" imo. He shot himself; He's dead. There's no glory in that.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
Andy9o8 2 #21 April 20, 2007 I'm a big advocate of the news media getting keeping the public well-informed; but on balance, I voted NO. 1. Gives the shooter what he wanted. I have a problem with that. 2. It helps glorify him as an antihero in the minds of other seriously troubled people who might be inclined to emulate him. I can just imagine some nutjob staring at the TV news all day, watching those images over, and over and over again. Brrr. Today's the anniversary of Columbine. I have a daughter who's a freshman in high school. This morning she woke up crying because she's afraid to go to school today.
freeflybella 0 #22 April 20, 2007 For those of you who voted yes - what do you think there is to learn by watching that video? Since I think the thing that set this nutcase off was his inability to find a girfriend.... I would think young women can use this video to see and hear signs of nutcases to avoid in dating.
