"It's not fair to the troops to second guess (the war)"

Recommended Posts

Lately it's used more often as a slam. "You DON'T support the troops because you don't support Bush/the war/our foreign policy." But that's just an attempt to take away someone _else's_ gold stars.

Hey if we weren't all slamming each other than nothing would get done around here:P

...Do your homework buddy, even under the international laws you are crying about me violating by being here I still have the inherent right to defend myself.

You wouldn't need the "right" to defend yourself if you weren't there. That's what "buddy" is saying.

Not to mention the fact that WE AREN'T AN OCCUPYING FORCE. I figured I would throw in that fact even though you have proven that you don't have the ability to see things for what they are.

By definition you must have military control to be an occupying force,

Your definition differs from mine. Occupiers don't have "military control" until after they arrive and then establish it - regardless, they are still occupiers. It's very hard to blame the citizens of the country, regardless of political leanings, for wanting all foreign military off their soil.

well guess what, we don't have military control, the Iraqis do. I know your media sources(which obviously know more than those of us here on the ground:S) says we call the shots. When in actuality we don't roll without the Iraqis being OK with it. Yes we are still conducting our own operations against insurgents, with the OK from the Iraqis that own the battlespace.

IMO, that sounds like political mumbo-jumbo to me. Not hard to find someone to justify your presence and action, eh?

We are "becoming more and more of a support asset" for them giving them extra manpower where needed.

Do you not see any conflict between this statement and your previous ones about "not being occupiers"? What were you before you started "becoming more and more of a support asset"?

Now having said all that. You're in the military and have an obligation to obey orders or submit yourself to punishment up to and including the death penalty.

Recognizing that, I cannot agree with anyone who blasts you for your decision. Blasters are most often hammering at the politicos that put you in that situation, not you as an individual.

You have made a choice and I respect that. Since you are living up to your obligations, I applaud you and wish you well. Come home safe and sound while protecting your buddies, too.
My reality and yours are quite different.

I don't disagree with that point at all, but it was clearly stated that I have no right to take action to protect myself, that's what I was arguing.

What other choice is there after taking a dictator out of power, you can't just roll off into the night and let things sort themselves out. We had no other choice apart from staying here to try and maintain security until a government formed that could do that for itself

More often than not you're absolutely correct, but there are a few people that insist on calling soldiers evildoers simply because we wear Old Glory on our shoulders.

Now see this is where you really confused me, if I came home safe and sound how would you get any ladies?!?! They'd be too busy following me around to caht with you:P;)
