Elections in France - What does it mean?

The problem is EVERYONE seems to want services like roads and schools and all the other things we expect from government.... but VERY FEW seem to want to pay for those services.

I don't see/hear much complaining about much of that kind of thing - schools aren't a complaint in concept, just the ridiculous escalation of requests in that area.

It's money for the perverted arts, poor choices in "defense", proposals to pay for grampa's hangnail surgery, redundant grants for research that's already covered in the private industry, gratuitous moving of money from one voting block to another and then back again............that's the gripes

I'd like my coffers to be enriched. I'd like to even know what a 'coffer' is, and what it looks like and how it is operated.

The problem with deficits is SOMEONE is going to have to pay for them... in one way or another. The problem is EVERYONE seems to want services like roads and schools and all the other things we expect from government.... but VERY FEW seem to want to pay for those services.

True dat! Wanna do stuff but no money for it? Go for a bond measure. Why pay now when we can finance it to pay later?

At least there's one guy out there who is admitting that he wants to increase spending dramatically, eliminate tax breaks, and screw balancing the budget - John Edwards.

The question is whether other voters will cheer when they see the price tag — more than $125 billion a year.

Edwards is quick to acknowledge his spending on health care, energy and poverty reduction comes at a cost, with more plans to come. On Friday, he proposed an $8 billion college scholarship program, an outgrowth of his "College for Everyone" idea in 2005.

All told, Edwards' proposals would equal more than $1 trillion if he could get them enacted into law and operational during two White House terms.

To put the number in perspective, President Bush has dedicated more than $1.8 trillion to tax cuts. The cost of the Iraq war is nearing $450 billion. And this year's federal budget is about $2.8 trillion.

Edwards says fixing the country's problems takes precedence over eliminating the deficit or offering middle-class tax relief like he proposed when running for president in the last election.

"I think for me, as opposed to the additional tax relief for the middle class, what's more important is to give them relief from the extraordinary cost of health care, from gasoline prices, the things that they spend money on every single day that are escalating dramatically," Edwards said in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

So, John Edwards finds that the deficits aren't so bad when there is other stuff to worry about. In fact, even when there is no money to pay for it, we should increase spending one or two hundred billion per year. Pay later.

But this, I think, is a very telling quote about the ideas:

Let's not let people decide how to spend their money. They'll be shocked at how much stuff costs. Instead of paying $2,000 for health care, pay me $2,000.00 for healthcare and you'll get healthcare for free. See?

At least they have previously had the balls to tell Bush to go and do one, which is more than can be said for our toothless puppy dog of a government.
We're just the American administration's ****ing cheerleader.....someone pass me a pom pom.........
