Glad we fixed that problem!

It did stop all the torture and executions - committed by Saddam.
Unfortunately, the US has far greater resources and is much more efficient at it.

Lemme know when we break out the wood chippers and acid vats, m'kay?

>Lemme know when we break out the wood chippers and acid vats, m'kay?

I can remember back when war supporters were touting how removal of a murderous torture was a moral imperative. Bush shortly after the war began:

"We also ended one of the cruelest regimes in our time. Saddam’s rape rooms and torture chambers and children’s prisons are closed forever. His mass graves will claim no victims. The world was right to confront the regime of Saddam Hussein, and we were right to end the regime of Saddam Hussein."

It was easy for some to believe in this good, righteous thing we had done.

How far war supporters have fallen since. Whereas once they advocated removal of a torturer as a moral imperative, they now have retreated to "our methods of torture are not as bad as Saddam's were."

Some other advances -

The mass graves in Iraq now are not as big as the mass graves were when Saddam was in power.

Our rape rooms are much less efficient.

Government death squads are now less well trained.

We torture fewer people to death.

We keep fewer children in our secret prisons than Saddam did.

Breaking news!

May 9, 2007
Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the US State Department today proclaimed that the United States does not torture prisoners. This, of course, would not include enemy combatants, who are not prisoners and don't fall under the protections of the Geneva Conventions. These combatants are clearly a threat to America and are forced to drink water upside down through their nose while having their Islamic balls shocked off. Accordingly, they are afforded no protections under the US Constitution because they are imprisoned outside US soil expressly for that purpose.
To clarify in closing, The United States does not torture prisoners.

While I agree with all that, are we not killing Iraqis in far greater numbers than SH was?

Are you talking about the old, quaint torture definition or the new and improved Gonzalez version?

OH NO3S!!!1! NOT TEH B3LLY SLAPZ!!!!

I don't think what has happened is right - but equating psychological stressor techniques to acid pits, rape rooms and wood chippers is asinine, as well.

I'm not equating. But I hate the fact that countries like China are now lecturing the US on human rights issues.
You're supposed to lead by example. Not lead by "yea, well, we're still not as bad as......"

Calling drowning, sexual assault, palestinian crucifixion and roasting alive "psychological stressors" is pretty asinine too.

Both of you cut it out.

Yes, they're certainly doing all that at Gitmo, now aren't they... btw, you forgot the electrodes on the genitals and "being raped by a female soldier" (now that last one is hilarious)

Um...no.

The "claim" mentioned was that the person was supposedly forced to have intercourse with a female soldier.
