What's weird is that there is very little "common-type" crimes. This strange stuff is not all new though.Parts of Japanese culture are beautiful and refined. Other parts, like their xenophobia, are rather less so. And the blatant sexism, where men not only won't offer their seat on the subway, they'll throw ladies down to the deck in a race to the seat. In a land where they need to have women's only subway cars to avoid gropers. Many aspects of Japan are wonderful. But it's definitely true that they're overstressed as a culture, and this is reflected in their suicide rate. The most recent generation, otoh, seems to be rejecting this philosophy of working to death, so change seems to be coming.
dorbie 0 #27 May 16, 2007 Quote I didn't say I was glad about either event, unlike you. No, you donned your rose colored spectacles and pretended you were morally superior as you sneered and posted bigoted one sided diatribe about historical American actions. If you want to think about the history of these things, then THINK. The world including Japan has enjoyed the fruits of the decisive WWII victory. Inaction when you have the capability to act decisively can be immoral too especially when the alternative projects many millions of deaths, military and civilian. SpeedRacer 1 #32 May 17, 2007 Of course. America's bombing Japan in 1945 caused this teenager to decapitate his mom in 2007. And the homos caused 9-11. Why can't you people see that? juanesky 0 #33 May 17, 2007 Don't worry, it seems that it is ok for people to troll and insult you without basis. But then, the world is full of knuckleheads oblivious to history, and that the Japanese declare war on US after Pearl Harbor, and now want to call it Pre emptive.... Indeed, Japan was a victim participant in WWII, never mind how many innocents they killed in China, Philipines, or any other place they took over in the pacific.... Lets all blame the US, and forget the past European history, and where it took us during the 20 century. That's true, but at the same time they won't even grant citizenship to guest workers of Japanese blood from Brazil (see articles like this). They also won't grant citizenship to people of Korean descent whose families have been living in their country since the early part of the 20th century leftover from their colonial days. See also stuff like this. True, the Japanese are quite open to western cultures, but at the same time there is no denying that they are quite xenophobic toward eastern cultures. I find that rather hard to reconcile with my own experiences of Tokyo and Japanese youth. And a fetish for western culture doesn't counterbalance their xenophobia for their Asian neighbours. ErricoMalatesta 0 #37 May 17, 2007 Quote Yes, I am glad we dropped the bomb.>>>. I am NOT glad that it resulted in scores of civilian deaths. I have marked the point where your thinking went from reality to a world where nuclear weapons explode in showers of ice-cream and lolly pops. Quote But then, the world is full of knuckleheads oblivious to history, and that the Japanese declare war on US after Pearl Harbor, and now want to call it Pre emptive.... If we were to live in a crazy world where you apply the same rules to Japan circa 1940s that the US currently work by, it would be a justifiable pre-emptive strike.
