What was the post-jump demeanor of the chicken?

You can see for yourself here. Someone was kind enough to let me upload it.
To the owners of the video if you're reading this -- I linked to it for the sake of discussion. I'll take it down immediately upon your request or when the thread dies.

If it has the ability to contemplate its own mortality, it should also be able to appreciate that fact that it has just flown higher than an eagle.QuoteI had a discussion with a friend over the weekend about this and he said that it's wrong on many levels because the chicken, even if in a harness, will probably think that it's going to die since it is unfamiliar with freefall and therefore is likely thinking that its death is imminent.

BTW, certain chickens do fly. Bantees, left to themselves, roost in trees.

I'm not raging mad about this by no means, but I'd say that skydive didn't need to happen. I'm sure bouncing around in the turbulence and the opening shock was no fun for that thing.

As for the post-jump demeanor, that's hard to read. It wasn't running around like crazy just trotting away when someone got close (like they normally do, I guess). So maybe it was no worse for the wear.

Agreed.

Regardless of not having seen the video, I'm not generally for anything that is not "natural" for an animal, with some minor exceptions for domesticated animals.
I must ask what the point of taking the chicken on a skydive was to better understand the desired effect. The likely response would be asinine.

QuoteOP said they consulted with avian experts before the jump...
I'm curious why you feel this is even worth mentioning?

QuoteIf they'd let go of it do you recon it could have flown down? I.e. can a chicken glide/ soar?
I don't know about chickens but turkeys didn't work out too well for WKRP:
"It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ... K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this!"

To point out that the jumpers took some care and planned for the well-being of the chicken (as opposed to taking it on a jump and simply holding it by its neck or wings). Just repeating what was mentioned in the original post I initially linked to above.
