If I was you (and thank fuck I'm not) I'd put a little more effort into getting the point and a little less in missing it. ;)

You have no point.

Either that or you just missed it. :D

Then explain it.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

The OP stated 25% of Americans think Atheists are immoral. I posted: "Twenty five percent of the population has an IQ below 90".

Now... let's see if you can take it the next step.

Thats awesomely awesome logic right there!

Are your posts today going to consist of anything more than petty sniping?

I wonder if they ever realize that most (religious or not) people don't care what others think or spend any time worrying about it.

Just the whiney paranoid types.

Can we apply this standard to all issues? Racism? Constitutional rights? Efforts to infuse Christianity into our government?

"we"?

do as you will. In this particular subject, I think the fact that someone is or is not religious is really a moot point and a false fear. Thus a waste of energy.

Your list? Each person has to decide if they think those topics are worth discussing or not.

IMO

Racism? I think it's bad and happens in all directions in all areas. Good to discuss, but it's overplayed today and those that 'say' they are championing it are likely causing more harm to their stated goals than good. I think we'll grow out of it, but it'll take a few generations and there is no 'magic' fix that can be legislated. Even then, subjective skin color bias will just transform into people just playing favorites for less tranparent reasons. But maybe it'll be on a personal and individual level rather than an impersonal level. So - worth talking about as long as people don't get all emotional about it. Then better to step away.

Constitutional rights? I think they are neat. We should keep them.

Efforts to infuse Christianity into our government? Not a good thing. I suspect nearly 99% of the claims are nonsense paranoia from people with chips on their shoulders for some reason or those trying to push the pendulum the other way but unreasonably. But we should watch out for the 1% anyway just like other issues. I think it's a non-issue and don't talk to it much other than for entertainment value.

For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law to themselves: Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
Romans 2:12-16

According to your Bible, your God is responsible for countless immoral acts.

That is another argument.

My point in posting what I did was that religion is not always necessary for morality. An atheist can be just as "moral" as a Christian (or any other religious preference for that matter). Generally speaking, people know right from wrong (moral from immoral). Whether they act in the moral way or not is something else altogether. However, their God given conscience bears witness to what is right and wrong. God's moral law (10 Commandments) defines it.

Nearly half the population has below average intelligence. Twenty five percent of the population has an IQ below 90. In other words - Nawt too brite.

so it''d be OK if those 25% were, for example, racist - just something you roll with?

They were a few decades ago but many people wouldn't take it, and
perceptions have changed a fair amount. Those changes didn't really
require people to have a high IQ - just to listen up and get over their
fears and hatred, as well as some courage and responsibility from
those in society's leadership roles.

Cheers, T

You believe that all people know right and wrong (regardless of religion) and your religion provides consequences for those that do wrong. Is this correct?

Yes. Most do.

Added: I should clarify that there are, of course, exceptions (e.g. mental illness, retardation, etc.)

Not at all. We, as a society, should strive to educate/enlighten our fellow man.

My intent was just to point out that a significant portion of our population is below average (by 10 IQ points). With that in mind, we shouldn't be too shocked by these kinds of poll results.

Lower tier non-intellectuals exist across the board.

You can also use that sort of phrase to shrug off racism and other ugly prejudice preceptions that someone must be a lower life form simply because of who/what they are. It hardly makes it an accepable situation.

Nearly half the population has below average intelligence. Twenty five percent of the population has an IQ below 90. In other words - Nawt too brite.:P

It is what it is. ;)

Really?

What specifically are you questioning?

I wouldn't want you to come back, five pages down the line, accusing me of missing something that was obvious to everyone else.

To which population do you refer? What does "nearly half" mean?

That one is always fun, when someone says "nearly" half is below average. I guess not all distributions are symmetrical.......(or can be transformed to symmetrical) .

Apparently I know something that you don't.

And I'm sure I know many things you don't.

WHAT did you mean by "nearly half"? And what population? Which average? Without knowing this, your claim is totally meaningless.

42 is nearly more than 43. :P

You seem intent on pushing this matter. What is it you want to know?

The intended point of that post was to address the portion of the population with an IQ below 90. It's not that big of a deal, anyway.

On this forum I seen very few attacks on Atheists. On the flip side, there seems to be regular attacks on Christians.

We see what we want to see.

Yeah, it's a bit ironic that NCclimber can't see the title of the thread.

I'm continually impressed with what you seem to think you know about what I mean or see. LOL

I think each and everyone one of us here is an opinionated hypocrite (you, me, NCClimber and everyone else). All that we can seem to agree on is that we agree to disagree with each other. :o

Oh well .. we're human ... we are not all that. ;)

I believe I'm consistent and avoid the hypocrisy, but by all means, point out where I stray. That's one of the primary games of this forum.

But there's no doubt that it's funny hearing NC say there's few attacks on atheists in a thread titled they're immoral.
