Nice try though. Try this: http://www.davidsuzuki.org/Climate_Change/Solutions/Transportation.asp You're right. It even gives a phone number of Men In Black that will take the car away from your neighbourgs too. QuoteThe David Suzuki Foundation proposes the following measures to reduce transportation emissions: Improve mandatory fuel economy standards for vehicles to reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Gradually introduce tax increases on gasoline and diesel to reflect their real environmental and health costs. European transportation fuels cost two to three times more than Canada's, and consumption is one third less. Over the long term such taxes encourage the purchase of fuel-efficient vehicles and reduce unneccesary driving. Tax income should support transportation alternatives such as efficient, convenient transit and bicycle infrastructure while allowing reductions to sales, payroll or income taxes. Strengthen support for public transit, car pool programs, cycling infrastructure and other sustainable transport options. Require a mandatory renewable energy content of five per cent, such as lignocellulosic ethanol (made from straw, corn husks, forest residue, etc.), to replace some of the gasoline Canadians use. Lower and enforce speed limits to reduce fuel consumption. There is an enormous increase in fuel use at higher speeds. Encourage the movement of freight by rail rather than by road, as rail is much more fuel efficient. Encourage Canadians to consider a hybrid vehicle when buying a new car. The 2004 Toyota Prius, for example, uses just 4.1 litres of gas to travel 100 kilometres, twice the mileage of passenger cars in its class. Oh! Wait! No they dont.Remster
billvon 3,070 #19 July 18, 2007 >You're supposed to drink the alcohol. That sort of alcohol smells funny. With Fat Tire on tap at the Bomb Shelter, Alesmith Brewing less than two miles from my house, and Lost Abbey Brewing on the way to Perris - anything else is getting to be a tough sell! squarecanopy 0 #21 July 18, 2007 TO hell with the environment. I want to jump out of fossil fuel burning aircraft! And drive my gas guzzling pickup. And my 300 hp MerCruiser I/O ski boat. Seriously, when Mother Nature quits screwing up the ozone layer with volcanic eruptions, and trashing our coastal cities with hurricanes and tsunamis, I will get on the band wagon and start trying to have an effect on this planet. Until then I will do my best not to abuse my environment, with a logical level of deference to the realities of our modern existence. Nature has far more power to change our environment than all of us put together have to reverse those changes or make changes of our own on any grand scale. Unless.... we all agree to follow Ted Turner's plan to reduce the population of the world to a max of 700,000 people and go back to an agrarian structure sans use of fossil fuels. 6 billion of us will have to commit suicide to implement this plan and stop mankind's impact on this planet. champu 1 #24 July 19, 2007 I rarely drive these days, pretty much only to get to the dropzone. I'm within walking distance (<10 min by foot) of work and there's a Trader Joe's on the way home. /edited to add: I should point out my choice of location and not to use my car during the week has less to do with hugging trees and more to do with detesting sitting in traffic.
