Or... If you're at the last post, then it only takes one click to get back to the first post... And it's pretty obvious that everyone who posts on here has time for that one extra click. And to get back on subject... I don't know much about the Vick case, but this thread reminds me of a news article I recently read about people trying to get a horse slaughterhouse shut down. I didn't get the impression that any of these people were concerned about other slaughterhouses (cows, chickens, pigs, etc.), so I thought it was interesting how we can be so appalled at the killing of one kind of animal while the killing of other kinds of animals is just an everyday thing that we pay little attention to. (Not judging anyone; I'm guilty of the same thing.) I think, the main reason so many folks are trying to get the horse slaughter houses closed down is because, many of the horses are stolen. From grade horses to high-dollar thorobreds. I know this because, a good friend of mine is an investigator for Texas Cattle Raisers Assoc. The bottom line here is again... money. The market is Europe and Asia. I guess, I just have a hard time understanding what 'thrill' some folks get out of watching animals kill each other. There was a helluva 'stir' in New Mexico recently because the State wanted to ban cock-fighting. Chuck

I don't know much about the Vick case, but this thread reminds me of a news article I recently read about people trying to get a horse slaughterhouse shut down. IMO the Vick case has little to do with what animals are OK to kill and which are not in what "cultures". This was about blatan cruelty for personal entertainment - no matter against what life form. This wouldn't have been half the story if these had been race dogs that they put to sleep by a vetenarian after they didn't perform anymore. OTOH many pork eaters, who are well aware of where their meat comes from, are still disgusted by the games where an attack dog and a pig are put together in a small fenced area and people bet on how much damage the dog can do to the pig in how little time. I would conjecture that people get disturbed by the "cruelty for entertainment" aspect since that is often taken as a red flag and indication of lowered barriers for cruel behavior against humans. The other aspect of the Vick case is, of course, the gambling. As far as I understand a big No-No in the NFL - so I'm surprised they are leaving him a back door open and haven't banned him for life yet. BTW, pony and ostrich meat is really good - had that a few times when I lived in Switzerland. I've witnessed such things in nature but, that's 'nature'. To each his own, i guess. I'm still, against it.Chuck
