rushmc 23 #51 September 6, 2007 Quote Yep, there has actually been some good news from Iraq this week. Sunni sheiks are allying with US troops in the Anbar province to fight against the common enemy, Al Quaida in Iraq. Good news! And if I remember correctly many Senators stated that Anbar was not winnable. Well, that must be it then "America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." tkhayes 348 #52 September 6, 2007 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20594604/ even better news right? I expect that Gen. David H. Petraeus will issue a report that is somewhat skewed in the military's favor, i.e. I doubt he will flaunt the failures, he might lose his job if he paints a bleak picture. But if the news over there is as good as they say, then how is it: http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3549367 ?? What we DO KNOW FOR SURE is: - The war is not over and likely will not be over for years to come - Violence is still prevalent throughout Iraq - We have been in it longer than WWII - I have seen NO indicator that terrorism is on the decline anywhere in the world (i.e. recent German events) Therefore I, for one, do not feel any safer or for that matter less safe, than I did before 9/11. But we have spent more than $400B and will easily go past $600B even if we pulled out tomorrow. And there are thousands of dead people, a country in a mess and no end in sight. WAY TO GO!! http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3561502 TK

goofyjumper 0 #55 September 6, 2007 Quote Katie Couric Reports Improvements in Iraq Wednesday, September 5, 2007 10:32 PM Article Font Size CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric says she has seen dramatic improvements in Iraq, according to a CBS report. "We hear so much about things going bad, but real progress has been made there in terms of security and stability," Couric said. "I mean, obviously, infrastructure problems abound, but Sunnis and U.S. forces are working together. They banded together because they had a common enemy: al Qaeda." Couric traveled to the city of Fallujah in Anbar province – at one time a violence epicenter. Now Fallujah is "considered a real role model of something working right in Iraq," Couric said. Many more Iraqis have joined the Iraqi Security Forces in the overwhelmingly Sunni Anbar province. "The spike in police has really been significant," Couric said. "The incidents in Iraq have gone down dramatically." But while security and stability have improved in Iraq, basic services remain in disrepair, Couric noted. "I think everyone I talk to agrees that restoring basic services is really an imperative step in bringing stability and some kind of sense of society to Iraq.” © 2007 NewsMax.
