Coreece 190 #2 September 1, 2007 I have observed this myself. I have not went over the replies thouroghly but it seems that the theist have won the "I'm a christian and proud of it" thread while the atheist have run a muck in the "I would like to tell you a bit more about God" thread. Just a very casual observation.....Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...
Gawain 0 #3 September 1, 2007 I don't know or care about who believes in what or whom. I was raised Catholic and while I still believe, I do not feel compelled to beat the notion over the heads of those around me (especially without consideration to those who would rather not hear it). It's actually getting annoying. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Coreece 190 #4 September 1, 2007 Quote (especially without consideration to those who would rather not hear it). WTF dude...relax...I have a love for everyone in this forum. Though I haven't posted much, I read everyday and feel a personal connection with those who have no idea who I am. I was raised Cahtolic and have renounced it. It is universal and I have found the ingnorance in this religion to lead to cowardice,(especially in regards to it's history) and an incapabilility of expositing. (determining a position) I would not speak of my beliefs if I did not have a genuine care for those to whom I speak of the Bible and the truth of God's creation. I sincerely believe, so how can I remain silent? If it is not accepted, I move on and do not overwhelm...These forums however give an opportunity to fight the good fight of faith...the "F" word. Sometiomes our (christians) actions in these forums (debates) are of righteous indignace, other times they are futile and full of sinful pride. Most of the time it is a pointless debate...I risk my faith and joy to have the chance to express by beliefs in the hope that some will come to that faith and joy. I risk it because I do love those I speak to, though my words somtimes are not pure...and I apologize. How do I risk? I'm bombarded with ideas and doubts that I once believed as a unbeliever and creative scoffer. They bring back those doubts and I have to search scripture that vindicates itself everytime. Nonetheless I waste time searching in something I already know to be true in order to ease my doubts and my joy is gone temporarily. This is what Satan seeks and he wins, yet I continue on and God fufills his promise to perfect the work he has begun in me...so Satan loses. Sometimes I get so discouraged and weary that I do not want to believe anymore..."how easy life would be" I ponder....but I cannot and this is my evidence that what he says is true. I was worse than any of you...much more creative and influential in my disbelief. And this is why I grieve, because I do not deserve this joy and forgiveness and this guilt free life yet here I am and loving every minute of it. Especially the pleasure of the pain. I do not judge, I do not feel I'm better than anyone, I'm not smarter nor more stupid, yet I'm a fool in your eyes and it hurts. I wish it were different...I wish God made it easier on us, but he is who he is and not what we want him to be and I love him for it and I put my trust in his wisdom...Who are we? look how great we are...is not God Greater? Why it makes perfect sense to me that I cannot deny...I can't explain...for God has granted this understanding to me, because he gave me the ability to humble myself and ask. The very fact that I believe is evidence to me. How could I have ever believed this? I was worse! The fact is that it has nothing to do with me and eveything to do with the glory of God...so tell me how can you understand?Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... rhys 0 #6 September 1, 2007 The discussion of religion is always intriguing as the many different views/religions are about what it is that we are really doing here and how it/we came to be. Some couldn't care either way, but it seems we will always question why we are here and how we came to be. Believers and non believers of different faiths will always bicker. One will always contradict the essence of another and nobody likes to be told that what they have put so much time and energy into believing, is a hoax. Guess where my vote went. I was not brought up with any religion whatsoever which I sometimes regret. As a result I have a fascination with it and usually question people like Stevorino at length when the topic comes up. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
NickDG 23 #8 September 1, 2007 Once again parachute jumping comes to the rescue . . . My people were Italian Catholics and very religious. But believing is something that does, or doesn't already exist inside you. And that is as much as any loving god should expect of you. This idea of proselytizing, as some kind of duty, is repulsive. If someone knocks on my door and wants to learn BASE jumping I'm there 100 % for them. But I'm not riding my bicycle around the neighborhood, knocking on doors, and demanding to know if people BASE jump, and if not, why not? There's Tom Delay's type of religion and then there's true spirituality. I see religion as under attack not so much by the non-believers, but more so by the too ardent believers. A true and all knowing god would never ask you to stop asking questions. And I believe when god looks down from heaven and sees BASE jumpers, he pokes mother Mary in the ribs and says, "Hey Mar, look at that, the thing I made them the most afraid of they went and turned into a frigging sport . . . Too many use religion as a shelter, and not as a portal. And while the bible is certainly a good book full of useful information for living, so is Jack Kerouac's "Living on the Road" and the stuff Hemmingway wrote, and etc, etc. Being religious means opening your eyes, and anything else is just sacrilege . . . smiles 0 #10 September 4, 2007 I was told the other day while speaking with a person who considers themselves a "true christian" that 80% of canadians believe that there is a god. At the time I wished I replied to that comment, but let it slide as this person actually believed it! re: No one has yet devised a way to reliably poll belief in God. Most Canadians categorize themselves as Christian when asked to tick a box on a census form. Most of Canadians identify with the faith in which they were raised even if they don't actively practice that faith or even believe in its basic tenets. Gallop Canadian Poll If poll inquires about religious behavior and about the particulars of their beliefs: 61% say they believe in God 28% say religion is important to their lives 16% say they attend religious services once a week 30% believe one must believe in God in order to be moral 69% say they believe in heaven 43% say they believe in hell Canadian social and religious values are much closer to those held by Europeans than by Americans. Nearly three in five Americans (58%) say a person has to believe in God to be moral. Only 30% of Canadians and 23% of Western Europeans agree. Publics of Canada (69%) and Western Europe (77%) also are more accepting of homosexuality than Americans are (55%). 88% of Canadians think that mapping the human genetic code will increase their quality of life and health. OF FIVE Western countries polled by the Pew Research Centre, Muslims in Britain were the most likely to identify themselves by religion rather than nationality. A massive 81% considered themselves Muslim first. SMiles
