Bush vetoes health care bill for semi poor kids

Recommended Posts

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/03/bush.veto/index.html

Bush has spent billions and billions on a useless war, and yet giving some money to the semi poor kids for health care is out of the question. What an ass.

When i lived in Canada I really loved their health care system. I actually paid extra to get better coverage, but in Canada that's not really necessary to do since you can get free health care regardless. I paid because it gave me better rates on medicine.

Nevertheless, i really loved their system. Russia has a very similar health care system as well. Governments have certain duties to its people. Those include making sure that everyone is healthy, and everyone is educated. In our country we have socialized schooling (public schools). Why not have socialized medicine as well. And like in Canada, if you want even better coverage, pay for it. When I was in business for myself, the cost of insurance in this coutry was really rediculous, and it took a toll on my bank account. This was soon after I moved back form Canada. It was hard to adjust having to pay for medical bills again. I am just blalbering here...I guess what Im trying to say is that i am all for government paid health care system....at least for those who cant afford it....and yes, you can have a very decent salary in this country, and still have a hard time affording insurance (which may deny your claim, even though you pay monthly)

Healthcare is not, and can never be, free.

i dont mind being taxed for it.

Edited: In the US I pay approximatly 23% taxes off my paychecks. In Canada I paid about 25% (but was never billed for healthcare)

Right, we need to save that money so we can go kill a few more folks in the middle east.

Bullshit...

That is the amount they already promised to Halliburton and Blackwater in cost plus contracts where they do no accounting whatsoever...that way the companies can pay those nice lucrative salaries and pensions to the administration members who will go to work for them after this fiasco is over.

The bill raised the age to 25 and defined poor as in a family that makes 80K or less.

All this bill was trying to do was start social medicine in a back door way.

Glad he vetoed it.

A family making, say $80,000 (and would be eligible for the democrat expanded SCHIP) does not need government health insurance. According to the left, for tax purposes, such households are rich, should be taxed more and should feel guilty for making so much money.

That's actually a lie. (Not saying you're lying; you probably got that from FOX or someone similar.) See the other thread on the topic.

Not entirely a lie:

The president gets to make the $83,000 claim because New York had wanted to allow children in families with incomes up to four times the poverty level onto the program. That is, indeed, $82,600. The Department of Health and Human Services rejected New York's plan last month, and under the bill, that denial would stand. White House officials warn, however, that the bill would allow a future administration to grant New York's request.

Certainly a gray area to be sure. The bill did allow up to $60,000 per year, which is nowhere near poverty. The bill went too far.

There were some lies however:

But it's not just the president who is confused; Democrats are, too. Last week, at a news conference, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told the story of 12-year-old Deamonte Driver, the Maryland boy who died earlier this year after an untreated abscessed tooth turned into a brain infection.

"He had a toothache," Hoyer said, "but he didn't have health insurance, and his folks could not access dental care."

Actually, Deamonte Driver did have health insurance. He had Medicaid. His mother just couldn't find a dentist who would accept that Medicaid coverage — which is a whole different problem.

Put enough BS in the system, and the system will stop accepting the BS. That is to say, doctors can begin to stop accepting insurance. It's their practice after all.

The government is telling the pharmacists to do their job. Would you have a problem with a pharmacist denying you the antibiotics that your Dr. prescribed for a raging infection?
(Hmmm.....note to self: Might want to reconsider that investment in the new Christian Science Pharmacy.)

I am still trying to figure out where people get the idea that the federal government needs to provide them healthcare...with MY tax dollars. Why do I have to pay the healthcare costs of smokers, obese people, drug abusers, and the children of people who make $80K+ a year?

Healthcare by the federal government...anyone remember the Walter Reed hospital scandal earlier this year??? Anyone ever deal with the Internal Revenue Service, the FAA, the VA etc. What has the federal government EVER done well? And you want to turn your medical care over to a bunch of government employees who, in large part, are government employees because they can't find decent employment in the private sector.

No thanks.

Let me guess, my scenario involves an "activist pharmacist" and yours doesn't:D

Absolutely. Let's say the pharmacist was a christian scientist who was against using antibiotics to fight infection. Would you want to force him to do something contrary to his beliefs just because you wanted antibiotics? You really want the government telling people what to do and what values they have to hold? After all, to him sickness is the result of fear, ignorance, or sin. Just get over that and you'll be fine.

I don't know a lot about that, but I do know that the government cannot currently force a doctor to accept any type of insurance.
