Senator Larry Criag Now Vows to Stay in Office

Recommended Posts

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071004/ap_on_go_co/craig_senate

The republican party needs to get their act together. Sen. Craig serves no one but himself in doing this. Of the 30ish Senate seats up for election next year, nearly two thirds of them are republican held seats.

They better get it together. >:(
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh

Gonna be fun to watch. If this had been a Dem and he/she had been attacked this way the Libs would be screaming racists homophob bigot bastards. Leave him/her alone.

The diffence is hilarious to watch.

Also in the news -

Judge denies Craig's attempt to get his "guilty" plea changed to "not guilty." Few other republicans support him in his not-guilty-in-the-bathroom claim, but fellow Idahoan Sen. Crapo does. (There's a joke in there, but I'll leave it to the next poster to figure out what it is.)

Well I don't blame hime for not wanting to give up his seat. You know how hard it is sometimes to find a nice clean seat w/o pee on it?[:/]

Speaking as a non-american looking in :) I thought the whole point behind the media uproar was that he had been exposed for his ridiculous double standards.

Presumably if he was a progressive democrat (or republican for that matter), then the homsexual nature of these clandestine meetings wouldn't be so much in question, but one of general decency in a public space.

Why should he be left alone?
He should be held to account for why he actively pursues and persecutes perfectly law-abiding decent people for engaging in an act that he clearly enjoys doing in a public toilet. This logic would apply to the person irrespective of thier political views or country.

I think people are buying 'tickets' for more voyeuristic reasons ie watching a man who clearly enjoyed persecuting homosexuals being exposed as one. THe fact that he lies and squirms around the facts just adds value to the ticket.

The one sided uproar (not just for this) has become so rediculas one can only look at it as entertainment or cry. I chose not to cry. I, do not think he should be left alone but I did point out that if he were a Dem. there would be all the groups howling in his defense.

Anyway, just my perspective on the issue.

he needs to resign and dissappear whether he's guilty or not. by the way, i think he's guilty. he folded when he should have went all in. gov. otter has already decided on a replacement for him and it would be best for idaho to put all of this behind us.

He's nuts, he should immediately change his party affiliation.

The only question at that point is which chairmanships he'd be given.

Totally missing the point again.. but not unexpected.

He is a closeted man who likes that whole bathroom sex thing...with other men.. yet he abhors his little indiscretions so much that he feels the need to persecute others like himself... just as many closeted homosexuals do.. so he can prove to his good ole boy friends that he is not in point of fact a homosexual.. The rePUBICan party certainly seems to be rife with this activity....

If he were a dem... I highly doubt he would be supporting the draconian bullshit that the rePUBICans have latched onto as a divisive issue.. Yall just gotta have something to be against.. you just caint help yourselves.

What are you saying? That we should only condemn sleazy, unacceptable and illegal behavior in our elected leaders, if they publicly oppose such behavior?

Why not condemn them because we find their behavior inappropriate, regardless of their official stances?

And the fact that he was secretly homosexual is not the same thing as the fact that he is sexually compulsive. Still, let's see where the GOP takes this.

I liken it to PETA picketing Michael Vick, both representing historically Democrat demographics.

I just hate the hypocrisy, regardless of which "side" it happens to be on, and I really hate it for his wife.

The funny thing is that I have heard that this, like the Foley scandal, has been a Washington insider joke for years before it came out - and I heard that from Republicans in the media.

Let's face it, they all don't really care what the policy is as long as it gets the public fired up enough to get out and re-elect them. It is not exclusive to either party.

I certainly do....but it is interesting to see how many of the party of fake morality are getting caught up in things that they themselves are so vociferous in their demonization of....homosexuality... paedophilia...etc.

In your scenario, what would the Republicans be saying in even-tempered tones?

Yeah, cause, like they're the only ones doing it?

:S

When Rep. Frank got wrapped up in his little scandal, did he take the high-road? No, he got rewarded, even within his own party.

How about Sen. Inouye? Rep. Savage? Sen. Adams? Rep. Richmond? Rep. Young? Rep. Hays? Rep. Studds? Rep. Reynolds? Sh*t, even Rep. Foley resigned, and he wasn't even investigated, indicted or convicted.

Here, Sen. Craig doesn't even have support from his own party or state...he alone is doing this and it's to the detriment of the party as a whole.

And half of the six considered potentially at play (Allard in CO, Hagel -- who I really hate to see leave -- in NE, & "St." Pete in NM) are in nearby states. A wild card may turn out to be Oregon. Craig's impact is unlikely to be significant in VA or NH.

In 2012, Lugar (Indiana-R) will be 80. Who is going to be the next generation of Hagel & Lugar's in Foreign Policy?

The Dems have a young potential leader in Obama, who's already working with Lugar, on CTR, assuming he stays in the Senate. Obama is not a Sam Nunn yet, or even a Biden or Dodd. I suspect Webb's going to focus on Armed Services.

Uh, Rush, the republicans are doing just as much (if not more) screaming about this as the democrats. They want him out of their party.

Oh Bill, you know its only the media that makes it look that way. I'm pretty sure that Hillary is behind it all.;)

All this says more about the voters than anyone. I have vowed from now own to:
1. never vote a straight-party ballot,
2. only fill in for candidates who I know their platforms and history for certain (not "just because I am voting against a Republican or Democrat on principle"), and
3. stop thinking my third-party vote is just thrown away, causing me to go either/or.
