Realist Realists * Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision * Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa * Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations * Believe strong alliances are important to US interests * Weigh the political costs of foreign action * Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest Historical realist: President Dwight D. That might help her avoid misusing the term so frequently. pirana 0 #8 October 8, 2007 Apparently, my approach to foreign policy falls in the PAGE NOT FOUND category. rehmwa 2 #9 October 8, 2007 QuoteSo are you???? http://www.csmonitor.com/cgi-bin/neoConQuiz.pl http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/neoconQuiz.html link is there now. "realist" but, some of the answer options on a couple questions I didn't like at all - the verbage was definitely goofy/inflammatory and made it hard to even consider some answers that would otherwise be palatable. ... NCclimber 0 #14 October 8, 2007 Quote If you aint one.. why so much support of all the crap they have brought upon the country.... Thing about a test..... you have to answer truthfully. Produce a single post where I've said anything that would indicate I'm a neocon. Just one. What I've noticed on this forum is that there are some posters who hold extremist views... I mean they post stuff way out there in La La Land. You know, crap like the 9/11 attack was carried out by our own people or cries about all our rights being taken away etc. And when someone points out how flimsy these positions are, they get labeled as a member of the opposition's extremist camp. It's about being able to distinguish the shades of gray.
matthewcline 0 #15 October 8, 2007 The quiz said I was Liberal. Which is why I say I am a Liberal Conservative or a Conservative Liberal. The wording was a bit scewed as others have said.An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

BikerBabe 0 #18 October 8, 2007 i don't know if i agree that foreign policy is the SOLE defining issue for classifying people as "neo-cons" or not. I got "realist" on the quiz, but i consider myself a social liberal, for sure, and moderate to liberal on economic issues. and i agree on the wording...some of them i didn't want to choose ANY of the answers, heh.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! nanook 1 #19 October 8, 2007 I'm a realist/neocon. There's a weird explaination here. . . I somewhat believe most (but not all) of both tables. The Realists table as with the other two is written in passive phrases and Ideaology. The Neocon table is written with action and power phrases. It shows what Neocons do where as the other tables show what realists, isolationists, ect. . think There's no consistency in the writing. Of course no one wants to publicly admit to being a neocon. the writing is designed (mayby unintentionally) to call out neocons. I say I'm both according to that table because I would use Neocon action to promote my Idealistic ideals_____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
