BillyVance 34 #1 October 17, 2007 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21320198/ I mean, what the fuck, really? Tibet is this tiny province of China nestled high in the Himalayas, and the Dalai Lama is one of the world's revered individuals, who just received the Congressional Medal from President Bush, and the Chinese are all up-shit-creek. Maybe we should give the Taiwanese president the same medal, just to see what happens next. Stumpy 284 #2 October 17, 2007 China are so out of order on this one its untrue. Doesn't surprise me though. I went to see the Dalai Lama speak a few months back, and he was Charismatic, funny, humble, and displayed a really sensible, balanced viewpoint when questions were opened to the floor and some of the tricky questions came up, particularly around euthanasia and abortion. If only all religious and world leaders could be a little more like him.Never try to eat more than you can lift

BillyVance 34 #5 October 17, 2007 Quote Tibet is NOT a nation! It's a province and an inalienable part of China! okay, fixed it. My bad... History says China invaded and took over Tibet in 1951. What was Tibet before that? I can't imagine why China would get all bent out of shape over this or allow Taiwan's leader (from another of China's self-proclaimed territories) to travel to the U.S. Both territories are tiny. Then there's Hong Kong, who still prefers a democracy over communism. The Chinese government can all go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
quade 4 #6 October 17, 2007 Well, I tried to start a thread about this, but I guess your's got more traction. 1) GWB move to show a true leader of peace as opposed to Gore = Brilliant. 2) GWB picking Dalai Lama at the expense of relations with China = stupid beyond compare. ANYBODY should have seen China's reaction coming. normiss 854 #7 October 17, 2007 it will get even more interesting when the current Dalai Lama passes...China has said they will choose the next one. They were an independant nation beofre China invaded. It seems to be about tourism given the way China is developing Tibet these days. They will slowly erradicate the Tibetans. Culturally it is already happening..What will the Yaks do?
rehmwa 2 #8 October 17, 2007 Quote 1) GWB move to show a true leader of peace as opposed to Gore = Brilliant. "as opposed to Gore" so you don't think the DL earned it on his own? Or even that there wasn't a position by the admin on certain aspects of the Chinese government before the Nobel awards? I suspect this was a direct statement to China, and that the administration could really care less about anything to do with Al Gore at this point. ... Bush did not cave to political pressure and recognized someone who is worthy of praise. How is that bad? China needs us worse than we need them. In 2006 the US exported 55.2 billion worth of goods in to China and China imported 287.8 billion worth of goods into the US. Who comes out the winner in that situation? Let China bitch all they want. When push comes to shove they will back down because in the end they will do what is best for their economy. The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. The phrase "cultural genocide" is used by pro-Tibetan groups and exiles. The phrase 'genocide' needs to be used very carefully; it's debated.
