I read a lot of posters on that video saying things like "actually this guy sounds pretty accurate."..................."He is right."..................."outrageous? this guy is dead right!"..................."He's only voicing what most Americans feel."

Let's see............10 million children without healthcare..............California alone 800,000+ children will lose healthcare thanks to the veto..............................that's pretty sick to turn kids away from healthcare. It's in the public and the future's best interests to have those children healthy and we'll spend way less money in the long run. The wonderful fact is that the increase in coverage was going to be paid for by a cigarette tax...........so once again the president just did some of his buddies a business favor rather than doing something positive for the population. But as he said............the veto pen makes him important.

How will any children LOSE healthcare? Is SCHIP funding being cut? GB wants to INCREASE funding by 5G$/year, which is about half of what the bill called for. Not a bad compromise. 50/50.

Is this what you would consider to be "stating the obvious"?

Did you even listen to the clip.............."in california the president's veto will cause the legislation to draw up emergency regulation to cut some 800,000 children off the rolls in california and create a waiting list..."

It takes a big man to take healthcare away from 800,000 kids in california alone because his veto pen makes him feel significant and so his buddies can sell their products cheaper.

Who's the asshat............the one taking healthcare away from kids who's parents can't afford it or the guy exercising his right to freedom of speech and trying to help those kids?

Maybe you need to actually read what the bill said, instead of relying on the talking heads and liberal websites for your info. I submit that a family that is making 80k/year (the Dem's cutoff) is probably not in urgent need of socialized healthcare.

Sounds like Cali is using the veto as an excuse to trim their socialized medical coverage that's already in place - I seem to recall reading something about it already going broke, but I may be mistaken - I'll see if I can find the website again.

If the Dems were truly worried about kids needing insurance, they'd re-draft the bill to take care of those kids that are truly in need.

No, I didn't pay any attention that buttmunch after what he said about the President. Even if he had acted professionally, he (or any politician) is not the way to gather information about the impact of a bill. Think "RTFM". Go to the source and read the bill. See what's really going on. Of course, Sven, we have gone over and over healthcare in another thread and we have nearly total disagreement about SHC. The point of this thread was to point out the disgusting behavior that Stark exhibited.

I'm not agreeing with his behavior, but he's just speaking his mind...............and apparently also the mind of a part of the population. And it's his job to speak up for the population.

Regardless of the content, before you post a video you should watch and listen to the whole thing though.

If he's right and 800,000 kids are going to get dropped from the healthcare program, then it's a sad day in america. Regardless of if you consider this socialized healthcare or not..........it's not the kids fault where their parents are financially and they're going to suffer for it. Also financially speaking we're going to suffer more from this as well............this will mean sicker children because of the lack of preventative care and more emergency room visits that aren't going to get paid for.

I just took a quick look at some CA demographic information. There are just under 2.7 million people age 18 and under in CA (2006 data). 800,000+ kids is ~30% of the kids in CA. Do you REALLY believe that nearly 1/3 of the children in CA will LOSE healthcare because GB wants to limit the SCHIP funding INCREASE to 1/2 of what the bill demanded? Seriously. Think about it. SCHIP provides funding for 816,000 children in CA right now. How could they ALL lose coverage because GB will only agree to 1/2 the funding INCREASE requested in the bill?

This whole thing is stupid. The Dems passed a version of the bill that they knew Bush would veto!!!

They did it so they could grandstand. Pete Stark is clearly lowering the level of discourse He's a real scumbag.

This comes on the heels of the Harry Reid et al fake controversy about Rush Limbaugh.

And Congressional approval is at historic lows.

The Democratic leadership isn't demonstrating much leadership. [:/]

This bill was also approved by a lot of republicans..........what was it, they were only 15 votes short of overturning the veto? So stating that the dems passed a bill that they knew bush would veto is pretty inane because obviously it got approved in the first place.

What a stupid argument........"they did it so they could grandstand".............give me a break, these people are in positions where they can get on TV anytime they want, all they need to do is hold a press conference.

And whatever Limbaugh said, it was enough to piss off a large part of the population and military personnel...........that's his own fault.

As far as congress....they need to shape up and grow some backbone. They give into the president and then get their stuff vetoed. Not much leadership going on there.

Let me give you a Canadian perspective on the USA and all the tirades, home grown animosity etc.

I agree with Pete Stark, and the thing I like about it, is that George Bush must be doing a war dance in the Oval Office. He has few who criticize him, and fewer that do so with harsh words. He usually lets anyone's soft comments roll right of his lame duck back.

He and Cheney cannot stand anyone who shows a harshness towards them. The next step is for Cheney to take Stark Quail hunting. This has to be the most immorral administration the USA has ever had.

The whole country is mad a bush, but although they talk a lot about impeachment and ( in Spitzer's case...recall) no one has the guts to do it.

Its all talk, beginning with Pelosi and her uncle Harry in Congress.

The whole congress is made up of wimps, and no one will ever really take any action against Bush....He has them shaking in their shoes with his vetoes, and so the game goes around in circles.

Peter Stark just got tired of all the rhetoric, and took three steps instead of two.

Its okay to be nice and civil, but sooner or later, a gasket blows in some congressman or Senator, and they jump ahead of the line.

The attitude of Americans is they are fighting for Freedom and all that baloney, when in fact they are fighting to maintain American hands on Iraqi oil. It has nothing to do with freedom.

The USA has turnmed the whole world against their country, and China is taking it all in, and taking over everything they can, while Bush puts American border guards in prison.

The USA priorities are ALL mixed up, and its just another sign of the nations impending doom.

Good for Pete Stark. I am sure he is a civil man, but he just blew his stack because nothing ever changes for the better...it just keeps getting worse.

I see on TV the other day, four American servicemen raped a 14 year old girl on their military island in the south Pacific. Just because you won the war with Japan, that should not give anyone licence to do such things, and I am confident all Americans would agree ( except the four who got caught).

The massacre of old people and children ( some babies) in Vietnam by Lt Calley and his troops, also didnt do anything to help America's image. Calley is now a pharacist in the good ole USA, and those women and children are still very much dead.

Where is the justice????

When the soldiers raped and killed a 13 yr old and her family in Iraq, they got off from the charges.

When Americans dropped bombs on Canadian troops, and the pilot said "he was tired", he too, got off.

American justice doesnt count for much....neither does the little value Americans put on the lives of Iraqis, or people from other middle east / far east nations.

Pete Stark is only one of many who think such as he expressedhimself. The others will soon do the same thing. Americans are getting tired of Bush and Cheney and their self styled image of the good guys.

Either get realistic and impeach them or put up with someone blowing up over their antics.

Bill Cole

I'm only responding to a couple of your comments because they were all over the map and mainly dealt with how the rest of the world views the US. If you can document your statements about that, feel free.

[He and Cheney cannot stand anyone who shows a harshness towards them.]

Can you cite any examples, especially any that relate to the thread topic?

[The whole country is mad a bush,]

Can you ducument that? There are about 10 major polling companies that survey every couple days and report presidential approval ratings. Can you tell me what the average of all the polls in the last 6 months is?

[...they talk a lot about impeachment ]

Have any credible examples or citations?

Are you aware of any impeachable offences that GB has committed? Please provide them.

He doesn't appear to have a history of being a civil man, and there are many more examples than the ones below:

This sort of vulgar personal attack is nothing new for Stark. In 2003, during a hearing of the Ways and Means Committee, Representative Scott McInnis (R-CO)--a former state trooper--asked Stark to be quiet during a reading of the bill. Stark responded:

"Oh, you think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on. Come over here and make me. I dare you. You little fruitcake." He also called the guy a Cocksucker.

In 1999, Stark said that California's state welfare director Eloise Anderson would "kill children if she had her way."

In 1995, he insulted Representative Nancy Johnson (R-CT), calling her a "whore" for the insurance industry, and
saying "the gentle lady got her medical degree through pillow talk with her physician husband"

In 1990, Stark said of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Louis Sullivan--who's black--that he was "a disgrace to his race and profession.'" because he opposed a welfare bill.

Can you tell me what you mean by "nothing ever changes for the better...it just keeps getting worse". Please provide some detail.

thanks,

jim

Even Pelosi can not support the nut case views (those that agree) on this thread!!!!:D:D:D

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rebuked a fellow San Francisco Bay-area liberal Friday for what she said were "inappropriate" comments about Iraq during a congressional debate.
During a debate on children's health care Thursday, Rep. Pete Stark accused Republicans of sending troops to Iraq to "get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Condemnations rolled in from Republican politicians, right-leaning bloggers had a field day, and a White House spokesman declined to "dignify those remarks" with a response.

Pelosi issued a statement Friday evening rapping Stark, who is in his 18th term representing the liberal East Bay. He's California's longest-serving House members.

"While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand—providing health care for America's children," Pelosi said.

Stark's comment came as the House failed Thursday to override President Bush's veto of legislation to expand the popular State Children's Health Insurance Program.

"You don't have money to fund the war or children," Stark accused Republicans. "But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

After numerous Republicans called on him to apologize, Stark said it was they who should be apologizing, for failing to provide the votes to override Bush's veto.

Asked for a White House response Friday, spokesman Tony Fratto said: "I see absolutely no reason to dignify those remarks with a comment."

it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
