Turn tail and run because standing up for yourself is too manly and rugged. The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. I agree with EXAFO, make the other guy clean up his own mess and then shoot him. DZJ 0 #19 October 22, 2007 I imagine it says something about Speakers' Corner that facetiousness on such matters (guns, killing, violence in general etc) is not always readily apparent..... As for 'milquetoast' (a great word, btw, which I'd not come across before, and which I'll have to use in future) well, you're mistaken.

I'm sure they will be a fine example to their three children. Oh relax.Do you really beleive I meant it literally when I said I would shoot an unarmed man? Just venting at the thought of some dickhead breaking into a home where people worked hard to build something for themselves. Maybe it's not so much that people are bloodthirsy as they are fed up with turds who steal, vandalize, break in...etc. Even if you are not a victim of a property crime (which I have been on several occasions) the inconvenience of allways having to go to lengths to prevent becoming a victim of property crime has a cost too. Insurance, constantly having to double check my doors when I leave my house...etc. Just the other day I parked in a public parking lot and saw two shady looking characters who appeared to be checking out cars and since I did not want mine broken into I stayed and kept an eye on them. They appeared to be waiting for me to leave and stood there for no apparent reason doing nothing but looking in my direction occasionally as if they wanted to see if I left yet. Eventually the two of them decided to leave but by then I was late because I was watching these guys. Could I have been wrong in my suspicions about them ? Perhaps..but I doubt it. Either way I had to incurr an opportunity cost lest I risk incurring a real financial cost. It seems nowadays if things aren't bolted down they are gone and even that doesn't seem to be good enough. Add to this the fact that the law seems to have no teeth and people who commit these crimes seem to get a slap on the wrist and thus have no disincentives from doing it again and again while people like myself who are struggling to get by so some jerk can steal it or vandalize it ....well I get fed up. Why should good people always lose while dickhead theives win (and yes they win far more than they ever lose). Pardon me if I vented but I guess I can empathize with the fantasy of shooting some jerk burglar. That does not make me bloodthirsty....just fed up. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Just venting at the thought of some dickhead breaking into a home where people worked hard to build something for themselves. I refer you to post no. 19. And for what it's worth, I understand your venting, and for a lot of it I sympathise, even agree. I suppose my real objection is that I find loose talk of killing burglars (or whatever other short term gratification someone might hunger for when they've been wronged) often leads to increasingly fascist ways of thinking (no, I'm not calling you a fascist). And with politics being what it is, people sometimes wind up with governments that give them exactly what they want... (Now that probably seems like a stretch, but it's just a gut feeling)
