Yes, it is sad. Too many kids raised in single parent household... mostly, raising themselves.

Agreed. It is our job to raise our kids. I dealt with bullies as a kid and I suspect my kids will too. I tell my kids that if someone hits you you hit them back twice as hard. That is the only language a bully understands. My oldest son told me that he is not allowed to hit back at school. I explained to him that if a bully hits you and you don't hit back he will keep doing it. I also told him that he might get in trouble at school and not at home. And I would have something to say to the school if he got in trouble for defending himself.

The only problem is what happens when things escalate. Say the bully & his buddies retaliate by jumping your son outside of school, or come at him with a knife or a gun.

Yeah, that's a different problem, but rarely the case. Most of us saw the usual pushing and taunting variety.

My dad told me, in a situation like that... pick out the leader and whip his ass! The rest will run like hell. I've seen that happen and it worked. Times, I know, are different but, most kids today have cell-phones... dial 911.
