1969912 0 #3 October 27, 2007 That's unbelievable. If he and anyone else at FEMA who was involved should be fired. If the head of FEMA had anything to do with it then GB sould fire him (i assume the head of FEMA is a political appointee). Talk about crappy judgement, especially with the the distrust engendered during/afer Katrina. AWL71 0 #9 October 29, 2007 Bush and the rest of the White House may not be the brightest bulbs in the pack but even they know that GW is a load of crap. Whatever happened to the Global Cooling that was being talked about in the 1970's? Nothing. And that is what we will be saying about GW in 20 years also. Nothing. The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

billvon 2,990 #14 October 29, 2007 > Bush and the rest of the White House may not be the brightest bulbs > in the pack but even they know that GW is a load of crap. The reason most people know that global warming is happening is that they can look out their windows. Polticians can spew hot air from here to China. But when your house is sinking into the permafrost, or the forests you used to rely on for a living start dying off - you're going to believe what you see and not what some politician says. >Whatever happened to the Global Cooling that was being talked >about in the 1970's? The global cooling thing in the 1970's was a statement by scientists that if we continued to increase the amount of aerosols we were spewing into the upper atmosphere, we'd see significant cooling due to increased reflection of light. We cut down on high altitude aerosols. Cooling stopped. Likewise, we will see warming as long as we continue to emit CO2. If we stop emitting CO2, we will stop seeing warming (although it will take a while to draw down the excess CO2.) So it's actually a similar situation. Want to fix this one? Until the free market produces an economically viable way out of GW, It's not going to gain much momentum. Most people do not have a EE degree to design our own electric transport, nor do we have tens of thousands of dollars to blow on green technology that needs decades to become cost effective. When you see celebs pimping some exotic technology that they can only afford, and guilting the rest of us because we cannot foot the bill, it earns them the title "Limousine Liberal, " and decimates their credibility.Ostriches and rheas are the only birds that urinate and defecate separately. billvon 2,990 #19 October 30, 2007 >Until the free market produces an economically viable way out of GW, It's >not going to gain much momentum. I agree there. I think the government has a role in assisting the free market in doing this, via things like tax breaks for solar installations. The idea is to get the economies of scale to kick in and start making it viable without assistance. > Most people do not have a EE degree to design our own electric transport . . . Right. But most people can buy a Prius or a Highlander, and most people can walk into a Home Depot, write a check and get a solar power system installed on their house. And most people can buy Energy Star appliances if they know to do so.
billvon 2,990 #20 October 30, 2007 >so...the solution is to start spewing aerosols again? That's one possible solution. But it would suck to realize the other bad effects they have (like, say, damaging the ozone layer, or making people sick) only after we started doing it.
