Of course Hannity calls Gore a lear jet liberal, so does that mean the drove of pickle-smoking Reoub politicians are cock-sucking conservatives?

I would think all the lefties here would embrace having an undercover gay man in government, or 5. Why are all of you so happy to get rid of all the gays in office?

And don't even THINK about the "hypocrite" argument. You should all know better than that. Who isn't in Washington?

I have no problem with gays in office. I have a BIG problem with hypocrites. I like "The Frank Rule" on gays in office:

That's me! Can't stand em. Why, I'd kick one of those "alternative lifestyle" types out of bed faster than you can say "thermal spreading of IR absorption spectra!"

But seriously, that's the best you can do? There has been a serious decline in the quality of your bashing lately! Where's the Rush of yesteryear who would at least get a good comparison to Clinton in there?

It is fun to watch the left go after people so as to try and discount the message. Happens with the gays, reliegion, morality ect ect ect.

Nice to know it does not work

Discount what message? It's more fun to watch the right justify their dirty acts and pathetic ideologies that have failed in every aspect, fiscally, morally, legislatively and then try to say the left does the same. Contemporary politics work best when studied conemporarily. You can bring up events from 100 years and make an argument for that day. but not for today.

Enjoy your spot on the bench while we fix the country, again.

No, just sitting here thinking about your "fix it" statement. Please go through the 60 years of your side being in power and show me what they fixed? As for the R's? The fucked up the best chance they may ever have but that is now water under the bridge. The Dems current class of hopfuls are pithetic. Poor Hilary the victim of all the boys. Most of the R's are no better ecept for maybe Ron Paul and my favorite Duncan Hunter.

In either case, a "leader" will have to come forward to "change" anything. None will float to the top as long as they are more concerned about what Washington and the Washington Media say and think.

More than likely, other than a few specific topics, we want the same things for this country. We may not agree what is the best way to get there but the fact remains, we, you and I, want a strong country that keeps government out of our lives.

Thoughts?

The first thing I thought of when reading that statement was looking into a toilet to see if it was floating :S.

Either way, unfortunately, the problem with NOT being more concerned about Washington means that someone probably won't be elected, or stay elected.

At the very least, to work in a government, people have to be able to work with each other and compromise. That's Ron Paul's biggest problem, is that he doesn't compromise real well. Makes him attractive in many ways, but ineffective in the long run. You can't get where you want to by jumping all at once (well, most of the time, unless we're at 12,500 and wanting to get to the ground :P). But if you work on it, you can get partway there, and see how it works. The other good reason for getting partway there and evaluating (just like a gate review) is that one doesn't always have the exact end already defined, and you want to check it and see if adjustments are needed to the path. Or even if it's the right path after all.

Either way, unfortunately, the problem with NOT being more concerned about Washington means that someone probably won't be elected, or stay elected.I disagree. Example. Harkin of Iowa, (whom I have voted for twice) used to have the values of Iowa. Not anymore. Since the Clinton Admin he has turned into an asshat that says what he needs to to appeal to the Washinton media, Moneon.org and other left blogs. He only cares about being acepted (in Washington) so he can get the money he needs to run and win again..

At the very least, to work in a government, people have to be able to work with each other and compromise.Sorry Wendy, but I think this is bull shit. One does not compromise what is right That's Ron Paul's biggest problem, is that he doesn't compromise real well.In this case compromise is whimping out. I do not but the "bring America together " platitudes the likes of Breck Girl keeps spewing. I believe, no, I know the American people know what is the right thing to do. If a canidate stuck to his/her guns the peopel whould give that canidate a mandate for change Makes him attractive in many ways, but ineffective in the long run. You can't get where you want to by jumping all at oncesadly I will give you this point. Just look at the sick direction the Dems have been taking us for the last 60 years (well, most of the time, unless we're at 12,500 and wanting to get to the ground :P). But if you work on it, you can get partway there, and see how it works. By the way Wendy, Ron Paul is a not the one I would want. Duncan Hunter I realy like.

Thompson and Romney, if I had no other choice. Gulliani scares me.

True. The underlying message in this case is that you shouldn't troll for gay hookers while wearing women's clothing in an adult bookstore. (Well, and that you shouldn't 'stiff' them when it comes time to pay for your fun.) That point is being completely overlooked here.

And don't even THINK about the "hypocrite" argument.

But it IS about the hypocrisy! It is, quite frankly, hilarious to watch someone have to 'resign' (read, get fired) for doing something they so strongly and publicly condemn and which wouldn't even be an issue if people like them didn't spend so much time and effort constantly condemning it.

It is perfect, perfect karma:)

It's innane to overlook the hypocrisy in this matter. That would be like a burglar asking the court to ignore the fact that h broke in, entered, and stole property.

If these guys are gay, they are gay. It's no biggie.

It's a biggie when they stay in the closet and take an anti-gay stance in office. There's no way to resolve the ethical issues. If they vote against gay rights related stuff because their constituents want them to, it's pretty damned likely that their constituents would not have voted them into office if they were out.

For a lot of people in this country (perhaps the majority?), simply being gay is a biggie, and they would not likely vote an openly gay person into office. At least that's how it seems to me.

As for this guy being a hypocrite, he's only a hypocrite if he voted to make gay sex illegal, which I'm pretty sure he didn't. It's quite possible for him to have sex with another man but still believe that same-sex marriage is not ok (for whatever reason).

Edit: Ok, I just read an article that said he also voted against changing the state's Civil Rights Act to include sexual orientation as being protected from discrimination. So I guess that part is sort of hypocritical of him. I'm guessing that his own sexual orientation is something that causes a lot of internal conflict for him... not that that's an excuse.

That's slowly changing. Tammy Baldwin is a gay US representative, and 67 openly gay candidates were elected to state offices in the 2006 elections. That's a small fraction of the total, but it indicates to me that people are starting to abandon old prejudices against gay candidates.

Which is why I hope people like this stay in office. Once they resolve their internal conflicts, they are likely to understand the whole issue a lot better.

>As long as they agree with you.

As long as they understand the issue. If someone is going to argue against a certain gay right, I am going to be a lot more likely to think they have a valid argument if they are gay (and are open about it) than if they claim not to be gay but have sex with gay hookers and masturbate in adult bookstores.

I may not agree with them, but one of the above people is going to have a more valid opinion than the other (IMO of course.) The other one has some serious self-esteem and honesty issues that may make him less than objective about the issue of gay rights.
