Take a bar and divide it into two sides. Side A serves alcohol, side B serves pot.

A fight breaks out ? Which side is it on ? A or B ?

A customer leaves and drives at a high rate of speed ?
A or B ?

A customer arrives home and is involved in a domestic dispute ?
A or B ?

.

A, A, A. Do I get a gold star and a smiley face?

The answers are A., A., A.
Alcohol is the most dangerous drug that is legally used. It has caused more deaths than all of the illegal drugs combined. Yet, it is advertised and pushed on to the next generation of legal drinkers to come of age. Personally I'd like to see it banned at all events including dropzones. Drunk people are a danger to everyone. They are obnoxous, ignorant fools. I never stay at the dz when the beer light comes on. I much rather be far away from those people who get falling down drunk or want to bend your ear for an hour talking gibberish. I actually laugh my ass off when one of them gets a dwi. Maybe they will learn something. It also seems that the biggest drunks on any dz are those who don't even skydive. Go over to the bonfire and take a look at the jump numbers and years in the sport of those who constantly post about how much they drink at the dz and at home. I think those people are only around for the drinking and want to boast that they are skydivers but never actually jump. Being a drunk on the dz makes you look like a moron. Being a drunk on the dz who does even skydive makes you look like, well, just a stupid drunk. If your only there for the booze, go away and take the booze with ya. I should maybe look into what the airport authority thinks about all of the drinking that goes on at city operated airports. Chances are they wouldn't be very happy about it. Likewise with smoking and jumping. If ya want to get stupidly drunk, go home and do it. If ya want to smoke a joint, go home and do it. Safer for everyone.

I will say the one time I smoked pot before a jump I pulled SLOOOWWWW. LOL. Never again. On the flip side. I have partied w/ the best in this sport. 10,000 plus jumps. Alcohol. I'll say it again. MODERATION;)

I'm still not sure it should be legalized, but only out of concern that it may become easier for kids to get. MJ (esp. chronic use) has profound negative effects on social and intellectual development in kids (jr High - 20 years old or so).

oh, certainly it will be easier for kids to get it, though it wasn't hard for them in the 60s and 70s anyway, and it's not that hard now. So yes, expect it to rise. OTOH, they won't be as likely to get killed over selling it and the crime that it generates now.

And these same kids are killing themselves left and right drinking and driving. Your concern is outweighed by the costs of the drug war, imo. Most of the problems with pot are caused by the laws of the feds, and the laws of supply/demand.

And California could definitely use the tax money.

It was always easier to get pot in HS than it was to get booze. If it were legalized, perhaps it would become harder for kids to get than it is now due to lower prices making it not worth the bother for individuals to do casual dealing. It would be like cigs or alcohol and sold in stores. That would be good.

Politically and morally I don't believe in "sin taxes", but I do understand how waving potential tax revenue in front of politicians is a big plus for any legalization effort.

Chronic pot use (stoned most of the day, most days) is very bad for kid's development, but I don't know how many kids use it like that. I'll look for some references if you want. Torching up on the weekends is fine, and much safer than drinking. Pot won't likely replace booze though. I liked both at the same time in high school when I smoked it.

8 hours bottle to throttle? Who hasn't heard of it?

What's your point?

Apparently in your last post you did not realize that people should not be allowed to skydive after 8 hrs of alcohol consumption, it does not ake it right if they just go an make a jump at 6am after drinking heavily say, up until 2.

Uhhh, apparently I did realize that people shouldn't be allowed to do that. (Maybe you should re-read my post?) ;)

On top of that, I provided a parallel with drunk/hungover jumping and getting high and jumping, so that the poster I was responding to could equally share his disdain for those that chose to get intoxicated and jump.

In short, one group of people should not be disciminated against more because they go out for "safety meetings", while the popular (or perhaps just more common place) hungover/still drunk jumper doesn't get as much flak.

Regardless, both groups of people are still dummies.
