Lucky... 0 #27 December 17, 2007 QuoteQuoteYou are a libertairian, as most right thinking people should be. I like that (and do consider myself closer to libertarian than anything). My experience is that most people do not fit in either box as defined by current political ideology. Not only that, but the definitions are constantly under revision to make them a good fit for people's agendas. They have almost done a complete switch since the early days of the founding of both parties. Liberty IS where it's at. All the other shit is political posturing; nurturing asswipes who think everybody should want to live just like them. >>>>>>>>>They have almost done a complete switch since the early days of the founding of both parties. Yes and no. Considering the Dems have been around since the foundation of the country and the Repubs not till the 1860's it's kind of a distant comparison. The Dems were somewhat the bad guys in a way, they owned slaves and IMO participated in some classism. The Repubs were obviously the party of the revolution to free slaves, etc. The Dems were the southerners who hated big government and loved state's rights. In the 1900's the Repubs, the GOP became the party of classism, the Dems assumed the role of the party that wanted to ensure fiscal stability. In the 1960's the Repubs became the party that assumed what the Dems were in the 1700's-1800's and they were against minority rights, so then LBJ signed the civil rights legislation in 64 which ran the yellow Dog Dems away from the left, since then we have only had 2 dem presidents. Look at th fiscal picture, the Dems were the tax-n-spenders, now they are the ones who balanced teh budget. The Repubs are the fiscal cut tax-n-spenders and no longer chant the idiocy they once did. Conclusion is that the parties have switched back and forth accross several tracks, not neccessarily just once.
