Police chief canned for stealing firefighters' beer

WILSON, Kansas (AP) -- A small-town police chief was fired this week after he was convicted of stealing beer from the fire department's refrigerator.

The Wilson City Council on Monday fired Chief Brian Hill, effective January 25. He has the option of a hearing within the next two weeks.

Hill was arrested August 1 after a surveillance tape showed him taking the beer. He was convicted of misdemeanor theft December 26 and given probation.

He had been suspended without pay pending an appeal of the conviction.

Authorities did not disclose how much beer was stolen, or why it was in the fire department. A warrant put the value of the beer at less than $1,000.

The two departments share a building, and the door separating the offices usually was unlocked, officials said.

The only person by the name of Brian Hill in the Wilson area has an unlisted phone number, so he could not be reached for comment.

WOW.. that is some harsh beer dues in that municipality.....sheesh....I mean if you take one cold one.. bring back a 6 pack to restock later...

UNLESS it was on ongoing issue.. they should have talked it over.. and made some rules about restocking the fridge.. or removing it completely if they have a problem with being big boys and acting as such.

That was my thought. Wow! Those firefighters must be some stingy bastards.:S
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Yeah, I too think this is stupid. You'd think in Wilson Kansas, that the Firefighters and the Coppers would be friendly enough to share beer.

Hey, Last month I was asked to leave a building for "theft" after I took a Milkyway mini from a cup at the end of the secretary's desk. It put her in tears. No kidding. Arn't the little cups like that....for..... other people.

I think the same logic has been abused in both cases.
