What will you do with YOUR economic stimulus money?

doesn't appear than I'm getting any. So when you guys spend my money, put it on hookers and strippers.

That would meet the criteria - - stimulation.

If I were getting such a check, I'd put it toward taxes or skydiving gear, but apparently those of us who pay more taxes won't get any rebate at all, and those who paid less than $600 will get a 100% rebate PLUS some. I'd hold my breath for some relief in the business tax breaks mentioned, but they'll probably only affect companies far larger than mine. I'm guessing I'll just be stuck in the middle, financing it for everyone else.

Probably put it in the bank and not spend any more money than I would otherwise.

Which products would you buy that would actually stimulate the US economy?

Probably nothing... just the same products I would buy anyway (mostly "necessities"), so I guess I won't be helping to make the plan work.

In more ways than one!

My new proposal - this money, by law, should only be spent on hookers (where legal of course) strippers, Jack Daniels or other US-made spirits, or McDonald's. Contribution to charity (as Bush did with his first rebate check) savings, paying off mortgages, paying off student loans etc should be strictly prohibited as contrary to the spirit of the rebate and the spirit of the age.

I soooo do not qualify... please spend my tax money I paid into the system wisely.

Do it for America

Who was it that came up with this again????

Oh yeah Bush....

So what are all the right wingers thinking about this socialistic redistribution of wealth from the haves.. to the have nots.

I would bet that its... just more of the same situational ethics they have gotten so good with.

If it wasn't an election year, you and I would get the $800. Instead he's settling for an attempt to curry favor with everyone in the middle.

Whichever GOP guy wins the nomination isn't going to win by campaigning on the last 8 years, he'll only win by campaigning against the opposition. The opposition, of course, will campaign about Iraq and the lousy economy.

I forget who said it, but I recall a quote along the lines of "democracy will survive only until the government realizes they can bribe people with their own money."

"Vote for Joe! He will give you a check for $1000!"

"Vote for Phil! He'll give you $2000! He's twice as generous."

That is exactly my plan. Sitting in a strip bar drinking JD. If I thought that moderators drank, you could go along.

This is the type of economic stimulus that this country needs. It promotes market-guided spending and the happiness of pursuit (as mentioned in the Constitution).

I know that a lot of those gals are just single moms who are trying to get their life back on track.
They'll be using the money to pay off their college loans.

I'll call the whaaaaaaaaa!mbulance for ya!;)

But seriosuly, I do qualify, and the amounts indicated will have basically zero effect overall on my life. So I would think that someone making over $75,000 it would be such a small percentage of income as to make even less difference.

And by the way, this still doesn't even come close to making up for the tax breaks given to the top earners over the course of the Bush admin. Overall, you still did pretty well.

This money will seem a pittance when Hillary gets into office.

If it helps, sure - do it. Though I'm doubtful.

But don't call it a "rebate" if it goes to those that didn't pay anything.

Call it 'welfare' like it is.

"rebate" is returned money

You're right, it's not a lot of money. Given how tired I get at times while working two jobs to earn my way through life, it's a little insulting, but nothing I'm gonna get too worked up over.

Since the norm is for everyone to want tax breaks or benefits that work to their advantage first, I'd like to see a tax break tied to working hours. Tax everyone on 2080 hours per year of primary (highest) income and exempt all income earned beyond that. There's nothing like the feeling of "Hey, since I don't pay enough taxes at my full-time job, I think I'll take a part-time job too so I can pay more taxes at an even higher rate!" :D

Or better yet, the government could quit spending so much fucking money and let us keep more of it to ourselves so "rebates" like this wouldn't even be considered. Of course that would require expecting us to take care of ouselves...and that would just be silly.

Bush? Spare me, Amazon. It is being hailed by the MSM as bipartisan. Pelosi and her cronies wanted to add increases in food stamps, longer unemployment benefits period, etc.

Frankly, I think they should skip the stimulus deal, reduce taxes to all those who pay them and let this sub-prime mortgage thing work itself out. Many people did stupid things - borrowers and lenders. They need to learn from their mistakes (suck it up and take the pain)...although it is always better to learn from the mistakes of others!

OK dude, if you are working 2 jobs and are over the max, I say you should get the damn rebate. If I had a second job I would be over the limit too, but fuck man, money just isn't important enough to me to work that hard for it. I'll tke what I get now and some free time any day!

Quit one of those jobs and relax a little. Life is too short.

I think the opposite. Make taxes equal expenditures, and watch how fast people agree to reduce government spending. Our debt stops growing, our economy recovers (traditionally higher taxes coincide with a stronger economy in terms of GDP growth per person) and we finally start to reign in government spending.

Hmmm $1200 is a lot of money... I would probably just put it towards the principal on my mortgage.

Say, does anybody remember the paltry $250 everyone got in Bush's first year? :S

I think this is just a feeble attempt to repair the damage to Bush's legacy. :|

having just been laid off, that $300 dollars was useful to me. (also a very funny Futurama episode) But more useful was the extension of unemployment benefits. I'm a bit shocked that Pelosi gave that one up in exchange for one time payouts per kids. With the mass layoffs in the financial and real estate sectors, people will take longer to find work in other realms.
