Detroit Mayor in Trouble

Recommended Posts

For a consensual sexual relationship between himself and his chief of staff. Apparently, some Detroit cops (who obviously weren't getting any) sued the city under whistleblower laws, when they alleged that they were fired for investigating whether the mayor illegally used his security to help set up personal sexual liaisons.

When asked in trial whether he had a physical relationship with the chief of staff, he said he didn't. Still, the cops got $8.5 million.

And now it turns out that, oops, there are 14k texts on his city-issued phone describing where to meet up and have a go.

Now, as far as I know, it's not against the law to have sex with subordinates. But it is against the law to lie about sex with subordinates under oath.

I think that perjury laws should be changed - so long as you lie about a consensual relationship, there should be no perjury. Just a little white lie thingy..

I disagree. Public servants are held to a higher standard of behavior...and they know that going in. I was a cop, and saw (and admittedly was involved in) a lot of bad behavior involving a little thing we call SAM - Sex, Alcohol, and Money - the three things that kill cops. I was only ever involved in the first two, but nonetheless...

I knew that if I ever stepped on my crank I would be punished more severely than just any Joe Shmo off the street for the same things.

He should get fried...for being a dumbass. Consentual or not...he knew what the appearance would be, and did it anyway. He got caught. He is a dumbass.

Screw him.

Now...On the flip side of that. The cops should get a pat on the back and a ham sandwich for being good little RATS. $8.5M is a fucking joke.

Update: Detroit Mayor being charged as result of consensual sexual conduct between consenting adults.

So Kilpatrick got a blowjob. Probably many, and likely some "sexual relations" - depending upon what the meaning of the word "is" is.

From the article:
Quote

"Some have suggested that the issues in this case are personal or private," said Worthy, a Democrat like the mayor. "Our investigation has clearly shown that public dollars were used, people's lives were ruined, the justice system severely mocked and the public trust trampled on."

Why is this any different from Clinton?

It isn't. Both are/were being charged with perjury and obstruction of justice, not for having sex. One tried in the civil courts, one in the Senate. They just need to stop lying about it. Hopefully the Michigan jury will be slightly more impartial.

I do not agree. If anything changes, the penalty for perjury should be more severe. In no way should our court system encourage lying.
