The more interesting thing - Edwards is effectively finished but has
vowed to stay in. If Clinton and Obama run a long and close race
that will turn him into a "king maker" down the road.
Something I heard in the media that rings true to my ears . . . It seems that few people are "on the fence" with regard to Hillary, they either like her or dislike her. That being the case, Edwards remaining in the race is very helpful to her. She's still getting all the votes of people who like her, and Edwards splits some votes off Obama among the voters who dislike her. It wouldn't surprise to learn that both of them know this and his remaining in the race is a simple exploitation of the situation, with her dangling the carrot of "VP".

obviously as im in ireland you are more up on this subject then me but i heard a commentator say that the clintons were gonna do their best to lose south carolina and make a big deal of it being the black vote that is going to make them lose.
their plan being that the dems will rally around in the next states and vote for clinton as they dont want obama to get threw simply on the black vote

The numbers that are emerging on the day after are most interesting. As expected, Obama got solid support from black voters. But the real surprise is the support he got from white voters. In the final days before the primary, the predictions were that he might get as little as 10% of the white vote. Instead, he won 25% of the total white vote AND over 50% of the young white vote. And he crushed Hillary, 55% to her 27%, more than double her votes.
The Orange County Register (certainly no great fans of Obama) noted this morning that Obama has more foreign policy experience than Bill Clinton did in the 1992 primaries.
I think Obama's campaign as reached a point of
liftoff that deserves taking a good hard look at him. Like him or not, he just might win this thing.

I think old Bubba Bill is going to finish off Hillary's campaign. I liked him when he was Presifent, and I missed him when the Chimpanzee took over the office. But I really do NOT want to see another 8 years, or even 4 years of a Clinton co-presidency. Nobody can seriously believe he's just going to sit around playing poker with the Secret Service.

People liked the old "aw...shucks" good ole boy from Arkansas kicking dust up with the toe of his boot.

HC needs to give the image that she is capable under any circumstances.
If she starts to lose ground in some battle, you hear, "...it's a vast right wing conspiracy" or "all the other candidates are ganging up on me."
So? That's what entire other countries and blocks of countries do to the president.
Either she is a strong, lawyer-politician or she is a helpless little girl that all the boys are picking on.
Her choice.
I think that may be a problem with women voters.
In the day to day lives of normal women, they fight their own battles. They know that "poor lil me" is a manipulation game and mistrust that tactic.

True! And don't forget, McCain worked for the Viet Cong for two years. Do we really want a North Vietnamese agent as president of the US? And of course Huckabee has three wives and supports polygamy, and Hilary Clinton secretly has people killed and their bodies disposed of.

quite possible that this is a phyrric victory for Obama - you hear his
name mentioned more and more often together with Jesse Jackson
and even Al Sharpton -- something the Obama campaign really
liked to avoid.
We'll have to see how the national polls will react. Obama still has
to catch up a 20% gap in many Feb 5th states ...
