Zenister 0 #26 February 3, 2008 lol that is just sad... i guess the wuffo audience wont notice that its clearly 2 different people (looks like it might be 2 separate DZ's even) and that the freefaller is never spinning or out of control (and infact is making adjustments to 'seem out of control by staying on her(?) back) at all...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. In other news, some people seen in Ads are actors! Yeah you heard me, they're getting paid to fake stuff, they're even told what to say! We're not even seeing the real world on our TV screens! Yep! And I hear that in action movies, the people who appear to die actually do not die! It's all a trick! Sad that people don't have my understanding of these things. Yea, if they wanted to get a clip of someone genuinely out of control, they could get any one of many AFF 1 or 2 jumps. Perhaps even get the Scott Lutz clip of they wanted the real deal

Sad that people don't have my understanding of these things. sad that basic observation and critical thought skills are so decayed that poorly planned, badly thought out political ads actually sway opinions and affect who the next 'leader of the free world' may be..you'll have to forgive me for being completely unimpressed by both the ad and anyone who believes it raises a single valid point. In addition it is both terrible skydiving video AND poorly edited for the 'effect' it intends. It isn't like it would be difficult to actually APPEAR out of control..It therefore fails on all counts.. unless ofc you are both easily amused and totally unobservant then by all means allow such drivel to affect who you vote for.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. It isn't like it would be difficult to actually APPEAR out >of control..It therefore fails on all counts.. Exactly. Unless any portrayal of anything in a dramatized ad, from death to police car chases to skydiving, is 100% accurate, it fails. The only valid way to present such an ad would have been to have an expert freeflyer study videos of an actual out-of-control AFF student and emulate that exactly, including the student rig, Pro-Tec and radios, while replacing the narration with the actual roar of freefall for the entire commercial (until the parachute opens, of course.) Zenister 0 #36 February 9, 2008 wow you really are on with the strawmen lately.. no recreation is 100% accurate ever, however some actual EFFORT could have been made, but ofc since its aimed at the average, the ignorant mass, accuracy in anything is not necessary.. just make them 'feel frightened' and you have succeeded. what is also sad is skydivers defending this stunning example of an inept portrayal. Hell a 100 jump wonder could do a better job of being 'out of control' no 'expert' required.. but then they probably would have had to resort to something other than what appears to be stock footage.. which simply supports the fact this is a bad ad both from a political standpoint and from an skydiving one.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. billvon 3,070 #37 February 10, 2008 > but ofc since its aimed at the average, the ignorant mass, accuracy in > anything is not necessary.. just make them 'feel frightened' and you have > succeeded. Exactly. To 99.9% of the people out there, it portrayed what it was supposed to portray. And it made a skydiver a few bucks, which is a good thing. Of course, when it comes to, say, digital cellphone technology, you fall into the "ignorant masses" group, just as I fall into that group when it comes to professional boxing. But I still liked "Rocky."
DSE 5 #38 February 10, 2008 Quotebut then they probably would have had to resort to something other than what appears to be stock footage.. which simply supports the fact this is a bad ad both from a political standpoint and from an skydiving one. Why would you say such a thing? Stock footage is recorded/shot specifically to fill a wide need. To the majority of the world, seeing someone falling on their back would indicate an uncontrolled fall. Do you think anyone believes the Remax commercial featuring 40+ skydivers were all Remax agents? Do you believe that a car can really drive along the edges of buildings? It's all about grabbing attention, and while there are many industry-coined stylistics in which attention is grabbed, this one is called a "Startling Statement." It's something people don't expect to see, which is exactly what the skydiving stock footage was aimed at suggesting. Something unusual. Skydivers make up a miniscule percentage of the television-viewing world. As a producer, I would never, ever consider accuracy or form over function in the process of creating a :30 or :15 spot. A film...yeah. Look how many people LOVE "Point Break" even with its 5 minute, conversation-enabled freefall...Wait'll you see "Get Smart" with a similar gag. I'm sure skydivers will bitch about that, too, but the fact that it's entertaining overrides any need for accuracy, particularly given the context in which it's presented.
