Help wanted - Disney: "Director, Global Intelligence & Threat Analysis"

Recommended Posts

I’m clearing out my email Inbox this afternoon and find the appended job announcement.

What conclusions can one draw when the "happiest place on Earth” needs a Director (assumedly for a Division or Directorate) of “Global Intelligence & Threat Analysis”?

Otoh, it may lead one to speculate what techniques are acceptable as part of intelligence collection in support of Mickey Mouse? (And what, if anything, do they know about Iranian centrifuges and counterfeit DPRK Viagra? A new version of free market competition?)

Position appears to still be open, if anyone's looking. :D

Disney is as American as apple pie, so they definitely need to pay attention to global threats. More so now than 20 years ago - they have the TV networks and movie studios besides mere animation.

Seems like a hard job - unlike the President, this person can be fired more than once every 4 years.

Apparently, you have never known anyone who dealt with the Disneyland Security. I grew up around there and learned that they could be somewhat draconian.

True - I have no experience w/Disney Security, Disney Directorate of Operations (DDO), or Disney Directorate of Analysis (DDA).
So from your tactical experience, do they have blue badges too? :D

This has been part of their appeal the the parents who take their kids there. None of the riff raff (or stabbings) that go on at Magic Mountain to the north.

OTOH, that doesn't make them very different from most of the Orange County police departments. I discovered "shock and awe" long before Bush coined it when the Huntington Beach PD did a 6am raid on my neighbor for petty drug offenses. Nothing like waiting up to flash grenades next door.

So it’s something akin to former DNI Negroponte wanting to relocate the ODNI from Bolling AFB to the old Naval Observatory (near Foggy Bottom) because he didn’t like having to go through southwest DC? ;)

Apparently, you have never known anyone who dealt with the Disneyland Security. I grew up around there and learned that they could be somewhat draconian.

In Fl. Walt Disney World has their own govt. and and security with police force powers. Done a lot of work on their land. Don't fuck w / em. >http://www.rotten.com/library/travel/walt-disney-world/ "In May 1965, major land transactions were being recorded a few miles southwest of Orlando in Osceola County. Two large tracts totalling $1.5 million were sold, and smaller tracts of flatlands and cattle pastures were purchased by exotic-sounding companies such as the Latin-American Development and Managers Corporation and the Reedy Creek Ranch Corporation. Although the sales reports were open to the public, the identity of the buyers were not.

Months passed and more land changed hands. By late June, the Orlando Sentinel reported that more than 27,000 acres had been sold so far. It wasn't until October when Sentinel reporter Emily Bavar broke the story, was it revealed that Walt Disney was the mastermind behind the purchases.

Forcing his hand, Walt and his brother Roy hastily arranged a press conference and, with the governor by their side, admitted the land was theirs and could only hint at what Disney World would do for Florida. But once Walt described the $400 million project and mentioned the few thousand jobs it would create, Florida's government quickly gave Walt permission to establish the autonomous Reedy Creek Improvement District. With this, he could write his own zoning restrictions and building codes and plan his own roads, bridges, hotels, lakes, horse trails, airport, golf courses, night clubs, theaters, and a residential community for his employees" Here's another.>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCID "Disney Security is a security force operated by the Walt Disney Company (Disney) in the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Though it is a private company, it often operates as a law enforcement agency.

Disney Security does not technically have any jurisdiction over the Reedy Creek Improvement District as it is not actually a law enforcement agency. However, it can perform certain law enforcement actions as prescribed under Florida law, including initiating traffic stops on public roads, arresting shoplifters, temporarily holding offenders until law enforcement arrives, and ejecting unruly or unwanted visitors from the park. However, if the Disney Company wishes to press charges against an offender, they must do so through the Orange County or Osceola County Sheriff Departments. They also leave the investigation of more profound crimes to these departments.

At times, the lack of government oversight found in the Reedy Creek Improvement District has been blamed for controversy surrounding Disney Security. Various whistleblower sources have documented alleged cases of criminal rights abuses, including indefinite holding without a criminal charge, unfounded arrest, impeding the investigations of bona fide law enforcement agencies, and one case where a Disney Security officer participated in an illegal high-speed pursuit which resulted in a collision and the subsequent deaths of those in the car being pursued."

Might have a little to do w/ this article. > http://news.yahoo.com/s/news21/20070216/ts_news21/walt_disney_world_the_governments_1 Or this> "The Improvement District has far-reaching powers. Through the District, Disney could construct almost anything within its borders, including a nuclear power plant (which it never built, opting instead for a more traditional plant that supplements power from outside of the District). The District, as with any municipal corporation, can issue tax-free bonds for internal improvements. This became a point of contention when a 1985 law limited the amount of tax-free bonds in Florida. The eligible bonds were chosen randomly, causing the District to beat out Orange County, which had planned to build low-income housing, in 1989.">>> They do have a pretty cool talking water fountain in their permitting building tho. My only run in happened when I was dating one of the employees who was dressed in a costume to entertain the kids. They thought I was saying that I was insane because I told them, "I'm fucking Goofy."

:D:D:D:D

That was great.:D

But I wonder - what assets do the people at Disney have for intellegence gathering? I guess elves and fairies could be good spies.... ?[:/]
