Gawain 0 #1 April 4, 2008 http://www.hillaryclinton.com/feature/returns/ They've done very well since President Clinton left office in 2001. I'll go on the record right now and say that I have no problem with that in iteself. I like to celebrate success, versus demonize it. However, if you look at this summary: CUMULATIVE TOTAL(GROSS) INCOME: $109,175,175 Including, among other items: * Senator Clinton's Senate Salary: $ 1,051,606 * President Clinton's Presidential Pension: $ 1,217,250 * Senator Clinton's Book Income: $10,457,083 * President Clinton's Book Income: $29,580,525 * President Clinton's Speech Income: $51,855,599 You'll note that those items are short by about $15M. This was brought up by Dick Morris on Fox News, apparently that discrepancy is income earned by President Clinton from InfoUSA, and another source in Dubai. I don't know all the details, and Sen Clinton makes a note about this in her Congressional disclosure reports, but not immediately on her web-site. I looked at their 2006 return...it was 68 pages long...yikes! Anyway, there it is. I don't think this will generate into anything crazy in the campaign in the near term, but $15M is lot of money to not account for pretty clearly...So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! happythoughts 0 #8 April 5, 2008 Quote You'll note that those items are short by about $15M. This was brought up by Dick Morris on Fox News, apparently that discrepancy is income earned by President Clinton from InfoUSA, and another source in Dubai. Wall Street Journal - Dubai Quote January 22, 2008 Former President Clinton stands to reap around $20 million -- and will sever a politically sensitive partnership tie to Dubai -- by ending his high-profile business relationship with the investment firm of billionaire friend Ron Burkle. Quote Severing the tie to Dubai, a U.S. ally, will remove a potentially tricky problem for Mrs. Clinton. Questions raised about the activities of sovereign wealth funds -- giant pools of money controlled by foreign governments -- have become a campaign issue, as the funds have made a spate of multibillion-dollar investments in such corporate giants as Citigroup Inc. and Merrill Lynch & Co. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mrs. Clinton said such purchases are "a source of concern," partly because the foreign funds "lack transparency" and could be used by foreign governments as "instruments of foreign policy." Of course, the companies that gave BC over $50 million "to speak" will not expect Hillary to help them out... Sweet deal. It isn't a campaign contribution. It is cash straight to Bill's pocket. $50m 2008 NPR story on INFO USA Quote After the Clintons left the White House, Gupta hired Bill Clinton as a consultant. It's one of two continuing business relationships he has had since leaving office, and it has been worth $3.3 million, in addition to the options on 100,000 shares of stock. Vinod Gupta of INFO USA is the one who is being indicted on fraud of the elderly, misappropriation of funds, and a raft of charges.

Yes I am envious, for most people to make that kind of money they would have to work extremely hard, provide a product people need, or be an innovator. But they get that kind of money for cutting deals and pandering to special interest groups. Their product? influence and graft.

Clinton had Congress from 93-94 and raised taxes, didn't raise spending. We know what the deficits were like before and after. Same was true of Carter's term. He made a lot of promises in 1992, but what counts is what actually happens. Like with Bush's no new taxes pledge.
happythoughts 0 #22 April 8, 2008 The real progress for Clinton is how much improvement that she has made in her humanity. One of the early criticisms of her was her robotic appearance. She would stand their stiffly in her blue dress and not move her neck like a Conehead skit on SNL. "We are from Arkansas..." She used to have what poker players would call a "tell". Every time that she was denying something, she would squint that one eye like a demented Captain Ahab doll. You just knew it was coming. Today, she smiles, wears clothing that wasn't designed by the Janet Reno school of fashion, and laughs on cue in an almost believable fashion. Vast improvement. kelpdiver 2 #23 April 8, 2008 QuoteThe real progress for Clinton is how much improvement that she has made in her humanity. One of the early criticisms of her was her robotic appearance. Well, remember back then, she was a lawyer. A poker face is usually the way to go in court. Now she is a Senator, after completing a stint as First Lady. So you'd expect to see some improvement. And of course being a politician in New York is different from being even the governor of Arkansas. It's like serving in Iraq, or being AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard. I'm still amazed they voted for such an obvious carpetbagger.

I took a quick peek at the 2006 return out of curiosity. That tax return is remarkably bland. I guess it would stand to reason that its by design, but jeez at that income level I would expect a tax return that would require a couple months of free time and a pair of hip waiters to get through. They are taking conservative to a whole new level there, but on the other hand I guess a presidential candidate going through an audit would be horrible press.
