"I'm probably going to sign it," Gov. Charlie Crist said. "The Second Amendment is very important. I understand there are competing interests. There always are in this process, but people being protected is most important to me."

AS long as spear guns remain legal in FL.. its all good..With sea level rising there will be a LOT more dive opportunities in the not too distant future;)

14 m rise in sea level would look like this.... LOTS more shallow water to grow coral in:)

Even in this area... there will be some new shallow water extensions of Puget Sound

I see it being contested due to the property rights issues - does Florida have a statute like 30.06 in Texas, that specifies what property owners have to do to prohibit legal carry on their property?

I too, would expect a lawsuit over this one.
Fortunately the company I work for has a clause in the policies and procedures book...no weapons on company property unless otherwise mandated by state law. B| Although most CWP holding employees park on public property anyway.
When Florida extended the "castle doctrine" to include your vehicle, this was only a matter of time.
The current view seems to be that your property rights cannot trump my property rights when it comes to protecting myself. I see a growth in "additional parking off-site" areas.:P
I'm fully down with this. Enough crazies out there with weapons already giving us a bad name.

Bang!

not like we weren't already packing in our cars anyway....I just don't have to park across the street now. :P

Nice. What's about all the stupid overseas tourists: Are they allowed to bring along their weapons, too? Otherwise, it really would not be easy for them to spend all their hard Euros in Florida if they're already killed first night upon arrival (which in fact, is not that new).

Ya know, beeing unarmed and all, means beeing dead very soon! (Conclusion's made upon reading this and other gun threads)

Just imagine the loss of .... money!!! :o Tourists will stay off from Sunshine State. What a mess that could be.

What a bunch of loonies....why? just why?

Just a step further toward fostering a "polite society". ;)

Right, so polite that it already has the highest homicide rate among "first world" nations.

From the "an armed society is a polite society" quote. To wit: I carry concealed and assume that everyone around me is, too. Ergo, I am a VERY polite person.

I believe that old quote carries a degree of truth to it.

How can it be a polite society, with all those EEEEEVIL guns jumping out of safes and shooting up the neighborhoods all by themselves????

PLEASE, won't someone think of the NEIGHBORHOODS?????

toward those that think that the mere presence of a gun somehow causes crime all by itself>

A very dead point. The very things you bring up here were raised when the debate was going on that finally made Florida a "shall issue" state for conceal carry. It was going to be the "Gun shine state". Neve happened. None of the gun controls crowds predictions came true. Some say it went the other way.

Allowing citizens to carry their guns into the offices would be safer for everyone. The people with the guns wouldn't be unarmed when some one showed up and decided not to obey the carrying restirction on private property, and the guns wouldn't be sitting in cars where they could be stolen.

Not very soon, just more likely to be killed, raped, robbed, or assaulted when criminals think their victims are more likely to be unarmed.

When Florida passed their shall-issue concealed carry legislation thieves specifically targetted tourists identified by distinctive rental-car license plates.

Well, that's not true. Female gun owners are twice as likely as the rest of the population to be killed by a gun. Male gun owners are 16 percent _less_ likely to be shot, but the average still shows that owning a gun makes it more likely that you will be shot.

Only if you're female! None of us is the average - we're either male or female.

And of course this is another stat that fails to distinguish between causation and correlation. I expect the bulk of those in your unattributed stat are suicides.
