The only difference is in how "the little people" are defined.

shorter than 5 feet and under 98 pounds

not either, it has to be both

"elite conservative snobs"

you need to clear up the standard terminology.

It's "effete liberal know it all elitists"
and "self righteous, holier than thou conservative busy bodies"

elite = snotty social liberal
self righteous = snobby social conservative

strangely enough, they both apparently DO know everything. Just ask them.

the fiscal types are too busy working to pay for all the stuff those two want to cram down our throats to worry about the labels of either

which crowd?

small town Americans?
effete liberal snobs?
environmentalists?
web posters?
daytime TV watchers?

Yes, including elite conservative snobs and then some. I'd say that quite a few people out there cling "to their need to feel superior to the little people by belittling their priorities - just because they are different - I'm sure it helps them get through their own little insecurities and gives them comfort"

The only difference is in how "the little people" are defined.

"Little people" are the ones that pay taxes.

>certainly that crowd is clinging to their need to feel superior . . .

I fear you have not clearly identified the "crowd" you are bashing (other than to identify that they are not you.)

>I'm sure it helps them get through their own little insecurities and gives them comfort.

Yep. Fortunately you are above all that.

I see your snide response indicates you haven't been following the banter.

I cling to banter to feel better about life.

I'd like to think I belong to most of those crowds because then I feel more secure about the general crapulence in society.

Eddited to add: The PC crowd is as much a danger to this country as immigration, most likely more so

Dude you do realize that in this argument you are the PC crowd right?

I think historically people tend to find religion or violence sometimes both in difficult times.
To say that certain states have suffered economically in the past decades is not untrue. I also think to say that the majority of people in small towns tend be more religious, more in too guns, and more racist.
I am speaking from experience here.

As for elitist I think John Stewart put it best.
If you don’t think you are better then the average person then why the fuck are you running for president.
I agree I want a president who is smarter, and all in all a better person then i am.

Actually, I've found people from highly metro areas to, by far, be more racist and non-accepting. The more metro, the worse. They just preach about it more. And are more transparent and plastic about how they hide it.

As for guns, I agree. A more rural life makes a lot of sense when one is more outdoorsy in the traditional sense. No big revelation there. Not a 'cling' thing though, just part of the everyday life.

As for religious, it really depends on the town. I've experienced a huge mix everywhere I've lived and that ranges from towns of a couple thousand to several millions. I think it's less divisive in the high density model because most keep it to themselves.

I am speaking from experience here. Just because someone lives in a high population density region has zero bearing on the fact that they still socialize with people like them - but the other viewpoints are still out there. in the city.

You could make a good argument that small town HAVE to show more acceptance while large areas encourage more balkanization of viewpoints, etc. Much better than the opposite. You are in a big urban area? Are your neighbors your best friends? Or are your best friends living nowhere close, but maybe you met them at the DZ, or work, or something and you cling to each other due to common interests and positions. That might not be possible in a small town. You get who's there, there ain't anyone else to hang with.......

But I see all types from all areas.

Since PC is a cynical derogatory term, I suspect most people think people they disagree with are "PC" drones/sheep. And those that agree with them are well thought, reasonable types.

At a boogie, we (some jumpers) once had a guy gripe about the "PC bullshit" we were giving him. He was pissed because, after he groped a girl (that didn't want to be groped), we carried him off and made him sit alone and sober up.

human nature

I think there's a real issue with wanting our leaders to be 'better' than us. Actually, I find it EXTREMELY disappointing to hear people say that. It's like hearing them give up on something personal. It says a lot about us having lesser standards for ourselves than others. At best, it's just a way to prepare ourselves for disappointment and the opportunity to judge someone else.

People aren't all that different to be looking for heros elsewhere.

That may not sit well with the more conservative types...

They want to vote for someone like Bush who tells them.. he is just a good ole downhome kinda guy.. even though he is definitely from a family and truely believes he is better than all those little people.

I just have had a different experience then you but my experience is limited and your examples and explanations are logical.

As for wanting a president who is above average I really do. I want someone who can not be corrupted, I want someone who has insanely above average intelligence, Keeps there cool better then avrage ect.

I am not saying Obama is that person i am just saying.

regarding elitist attitudes:

Why are you guys arguing about Democrat vs Republican?

Of COURSE they're all elitist assholes, regardless of party affiliation. They're ALL POLITICIANS!

I've been hearing about Obama's comments for the last 3-4 days and I'm sick of it. Hillary and all the rest are just ducking and dodging the REAL issues to talk about some dumb-ass comment and it's more like watching the latest on Britney on 'Entertainment Tonight'. They should just drop it. let it lie-down and move on. Until, just one of them says something worthwhile as to what they intend to do about the REAL issues... I'm not going to waste my time voting for any of them.
