downwardspiral 0 #11 April 30, 2008 This is a good idea. A friend of mine works for LAPD and carries a silver S&W .45 auto. Since he was trained on it early in his career he is still allowed to carry it. Although its a lot more reliable than the standard issue glock or bereta, its also a lot heavier which is noticible when chasing a perp on foot. He says the main reason he carries it is because its intimidating and many times a suspect will cooperate due to the S&W. Peace through superior firepower? I don't think thats the case at all. I have no problem with the police in Chicago being equipped with these M4s. But I do have a problem with the fact that a citizen of Chicago cannot buy a semi-automatic version of that rifle to protect themselves in the event a cop is not there to do that for them.The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
