JohnRich 4 #1 May 20, 2008 News:‘Big Brother’ database for phones and e-mails "A massive government database holding details of every phone call, e-mail and time spent on the internet by the public is being planned as part of the fight against crime and terrorism. Internet service providers (ISPs) and telecoms companies would hand over the records to the Home Office under plans put forward by officials. "The information would be held for at least 12 months and the police and security services would be able to access it..."Source: Times Online
ChasingBlueSky 0 #2 May 20, 2008 Hate to tell you this, but that database is a formality at this point in time, at least in the USA. Verizon, MCI(now merged) and AT&T have given full access to their entire communications network. In fact it's been validated by a former Verizon employee that he was responsible for creating the access point for our intelligence community: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/03/whistleblower-f.html QuoteAccording to his affidavit, Pasdar tumbled to the surveillance superhighway in September 2003, when he led a "Rapid Deployment" team hired to revamp security on the carrier's internal network. He noticed that the carrier's officials got squirrelly when he asked about a mysterious "Quantico Circuit" -- a 45 megabit/second DS-3 line linking its most sensitive network to an unnamed third party. Quantico, Virginia, is home to a Marine base. But perhaps more relevantly, it's also the center of the FBI's electronic surveillance operations. "The circuit was tied to the organization's core network," Pasdar writes in his affidavit. "It had access to the billing system, text messaging, fraud detection, web site, and pretty much all the systems in the data center without apparent restrictions." This happened in 2003. Anyone that supported the Patriot Act and warrantless wiretaps helped this come to pass. Why do you think GW was pushing so hard to give the telecom's a free pass on any laws they broke helping out his administration spy on us? Then there was this: http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/07/fbi-would-skirt.html QuoteA proposed new FBI program would skirt federal laws by paying private companies to hold millions of phone and Internet records which the bureau is barred from keeping itself, experts say. The $5 million project would apparently pay private firms to store at least two years' worth of telephone and Internet activity by millions of Americans, few of whom would ever be considered a suspect in any terrorism, intelligence or criminal matter. Big Brother has been here since shortly after 2001. Myself and the rest of those crazy liberals can now sit back and say "told you so." Maybe now people will slowly start to watch other things besides FoxNews and not read the Washington Post (or anything owned by NewsCorp). We have been pushing to make sure his damage isn't perm: http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_richard__080518_why_bush_cannot_be_c.htm http://www.dissidentvoice.org/2008/05/illegally-spy-on-americans-win-fabulous-prizes/ But I doubt we will see anything good happen: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/02/senate-approves.html and http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=8905 Don't let him give the Bell companies Amnesty for what they did! I just didn't wish it took two elections, 7 years and 100,000 dead people to realize this administration was corrupt._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Skyrad 0 #7 May 21, 2008 Yep, Project Echelon. Tell you what though John, you'll love this... The UK gov is going to make all road users have a tracking chip in our cars and will then use the information to charge us for road use. Of course it also means they will track and ecord out every move. ScottishJohn 25 #8 May 21, 2008 Like the chips inside a Sat/Nav or mobile phone. I agree that the UK Gov would like to put a chip in our cars to charge for road use but they better be quick because Brown and Co will not be in for much longer. Although thats not to say that the next lot won't pick up the idea and continue it. I don't agree with governments prying into everything that we do but the technology that is now available is making it too easy for them.---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers

Project Echelon has been around in your country for a long time. Maybe you thing it is cool that your government spies on other countries citizens, but guess what? chances are that they were spying on you as well. Maybe you think you are loosing freedom if your government requires you have a national ID, but you already have it in the form of passport, driving license, etc. Furthermore, you are quite happy to provide them anytime you use your credit card to avoid fraud. Don´t you think that what, where, when you buy is being datamined? The U.S is the only country that can deny you boarding a plane based on unknown data collected without permision about you, data that, by the way, will not even let you check to see if it is true. Don´t you think that takes away a lot of freedom? With the wiretapping the U.S government not only can listen to your private conversations, but also can locate you anywhere through your cell phone. And if you are not careful, without judicial supervision. Recently, the U.S has made mandatory that other countries share information about citizens traveling to the U.S so it can be datamined. Scary. Yes, you have guns, but don´t get it wrong, when it comes to loosing rights, the home of the free and land of the brave leads the way, with Europe following suite, i will grant you that. Thanks for watching my backyard, but someone is taking your TV while you are not looking.

Did you visit the links? Did you do any of your own research? England? Fucking Hell, the same exact shit is already in place in the USA. Wake up. Free access to anything on the internet. ANYTHING. Encryption can easily be beaten and they can get most of the security keys from companies. I assure you even if you are not a Verizon customer, at least half of your daily internet usage crosses their network. If not by you then with the businesses you utilize. Do you realize how many bits of personal information is traded across that network? There isn't one ounce of privacy in this country. Do you own a cell phone? Do you use an American bank? Do you have a car with any new toys (On Star, etc)? Does your company use the internet? Have you purchased/registered a gun? Have you used a credit card or check card? Do you send email? Do you post on internet forums? Do you use IM? That data is bounced around the net every day. Our United States government looks at it as they please. There is no way to stop them either because GW continues to push to give them amnesty for breaking the law. Remember that when you vote this fall. McCain supports this, Obama doesn't. If England frightens you, what do you think of that?_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... SkyPiggie 0 #19 May 23, 2008 I find it ironic that instead of worrying about the general nature of these growing programs of intrusion into our private lives, instead, everyone seems to devolve into childish taunts, like; "Oh yeah, well your country started it first", or; "Oh yeah, well your country does it worse". or; "Those darned conservatives are a bunch of blind kool-aid drinking idiots." And so it goes. While the masses are nit-picking and going at each other's throats with the childish "my country is better than yours" insults, the government, meanwhile, continues their intrusions because no one has the spare time to stop them.
