I personally see God as a verb. It makes much more sense to me.

Makes none to me. I'm going to "god" you today? Hey, how was "godding?" I'm so tired I can't "god" right now? I'm confused. Please elaborate.

I remember something I heard years ago...
"When you talk to god, you're praying, but when god talks to you, you're nuts!"

The way I know it is "When a person talks to God we call it prayer. When God talks to the person we call it schizophrenia".

that was basically my upbringing, I went to church 'cause I had to. Always had issues with it, even when I was 5 or 6 years old - it did not make sense, but I tried to believe it.

Got on the 'believing' kick for a while when I went through confirmation. It is a whole lot easier to swallow if you just believe for the sake of believing - which is stupid and against any human logic - you have to warp your brain for that to work.

After confirmation, I did many readings in church - Mom was so proud. Could not sing so did not end up in the choir, (Thank god). Had my 'epiphany' when I was about 14, sitting in church one Sunday and I thought....."THIS IS BULLSHIT -GET AHOLD OF YOURSELF -WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??"

I continued into bible studies through to 17 or 18 only because I had to, but they were more like social studies anyway - we talk about teenagers, sex, drugs, alcohol, real social issues - the minister always had to try to tie it all to "Jesus and Love and crap like that"

ever since the 'epiphany' I have been a staunch atheist. It actually is bullshit. Completely. And a huge waste of time and resources in society.

But what to do with your kid? Hard to say - I turned out OK I think. even with all the influence, and I certainly made my own choice. But depending on the religious upbringing that your kid might get, I also see the damage it could do to him/her by fucking with their head.

I consider it to be a giant cult nowadays. So love your kid, give them real scientific information and a good education based on facts. I think regardless of the other influences then that they will probably turn out OK.

Agreed. I think the damage occurs when the child grows older and must determine reality from fantasy while dealing with pressures to conform ...

PS: At least when a child grows older they are told that the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, etc... aren't real.

I was only raised in church when I spent summers with my grandparents. My parents were "holiday" christians, meaning they went on Easter & on Christmas "because it was the right thing to do". Just spending the summers with my grandparents was enough for me to decide that a relationship with Jesus was something I wanted very much. Many people confuse religion with a relationship. Religion is what is created by people who put their own spin on Christianity. My personal relationship with Jesus has gotten me thru many many hard times. And I know Im gonna get flamed for this by those who dont understand, but He (Jesus) talks to me, not out loud, (Im not crazy) but its more than that, something that cannot be explained to a non-believer. I dont go to church on a regular basis, but we do go. My kids have all been raised to believe in Jesus Christ, our savior. We don't go every Sunday, b/c life happens, sometimes you just cant make it, or simply dont feel like it. Will this send me to hell, not in a million years. Its my relationship with Jesus that ensures my salvation. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I will go to heaven when I die. Christians are not perfect, and the non-believers who think we should act this way are very misguided. In fact, Christians have a harder time than non-believers b/c we are ones that satan has lost, and he will always try his best to get us back. I stumble all the time as a Christian and fall flat on my face from time to time too, thats because I am human, even tho I am saved I still have a free will. As to an answer about letting kids make up thier own minds, I agree. I was forced as an older teen by my grandparents to go to church and this kept me out of church for several years. However it was my Savior who gently nudged me to go back. Now my boys, ask me if we are going to church on Sunday and they are always elated and excited when we do. My 8 yro son, reads his Bible by himself, unprompted, and at meals, they always fuss over who is gonna get to bless the meal. Christianity is not for everyone, but I am sure glad it is for me and my family, I dont know where I would be without my Savior. ok... go ahead flame away, pick my post a part... ;)

HUH! What the . . .

Wait a minute, back up there.

But seriously, at least we still have The Great Pumpkin.

I wonder if that little absurdity ever upset anyone?

You've never been Godded by those obnoxious people that come knocking on your door on Saturday mornings?

It's kind of like getting Amwayed, except worse.

I'm coming into this late and all, and there's probably a 1% chance that I'll ever have kids, and I don't even think this applies to your situation....so, this is quite possibly the most useless post on dz.com ever made.

That said, if I ever did have kids, if they expressed an interest in learning more about any religion, I would take them to whatever institution of their choosing. Until that time, though, instead of sitting in a church listening about how to be a good person, every Sunday, I would take them to volunteer somewhere. Instead of talking about helping others, I would actually get them to help others.
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

Thanks! And yes it is. I truly hope that other people who are unsure of Jesus and His mighty mighty love will one day, experience it for themselves.

I truly hope that other people who are sure of Jesus will one day understand there's even more to get Mighty Love from, and open themselves to Zeus, Rakot, Odin, Merlin, Krishna and several thousand other gods.

I already said it - open your heart to Zeus, and their love will come to you. Zeus is definitely greater than some Jesus.

Why respond to his post? You're only giving him fuel so he can continue to blasephmy Jesus. Hell needs people too...let him be... we can only pray that one day he will find the truth.... 1st Commandment: You shall not have any other gods before me...

Well, just curious about what makes people tick.
How they say something, can sometimes be more informative than what they say. I believe the life of every person has some truth to communicate.

What is "blasephmy"? My dictionary doesn't have it.

In fact the Eastern/Greek Orthodox Christians state that the baptism procedure cleans your slate up, and removes all your sins if you never been baptised before. And they basically agreed that yes, you could ask Jesus to suck your dick your whole life, and then - right before death - get baptised and accept Jesus as your saviour, and should go right to Heaven, since all your previous sins are now forgotten. Of course, it would definitely make sense to also accept Jehova, Allah, Krishnu, Perun, Odin and Zeus - just in case.

Also I haven't understood yet what the Heaven gonna be - so far I only got several descriptions, and from all of them sounds like very boring and shitty place to be.

just throwin this out there, but does the bible say anything about dinosaurs***

I haven't read any mention of them in the Bible. My understanding of the Bible is that it was not meant to be a history book. Brief references to historical events were only to provide background information for the communication of Spiritual Truths.
