>Why the fuck didn't he do this 7 yrs. ago.

He would have lost support for invading Iraq.

Yeah, you have to remember that back then he saved us from all those WMD's. That was a really close call!

Now he can focus on Osama and go out with an even better legacy.

BUSH: Well, I appreciate his optimism. I have no idea whether we will capture or bring him to justice, may be the best way to put it. I know we are on the hunt, and Osama bin Laden is a cold-blooded killer, and he represents the nature of the enemy that we face.

-- Speaking to Tim Russert, NBC's Meet The Press, Feb. 8, 2004

Quote

BUSH: Deep in my heart I know the man is on the run, if he's alive at all. Who knows if he's hiding in some cave or not; we haven't heard from him in a long time. And the idea of focusing on one person is -- really indicates to me people don't understand the scope of the mission. Terror is bigger than one person. And he's just -- he's a person who's now been marginalized. ... So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you.

-- March 13, 2002 press conference

Two days after 9/11, President Bush declared: "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our No. 1 priority, and we will not rest until we find him."

Six months later, laying political groundwork for the Iraq war, the president said: "I don't know where he is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

George W. Bush, 2003:

"You know, I'm really not that concerned about bin Laden anymore.. he doesn't concern me that much anymore."

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

Washington Post, 9/17/01, UPI: Bush said he wants accused terrorist leader Osama bin Laden "dead or alive.” “I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'"- G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI

AP, 12/14/01: President Bush pledged anew Friday that Osama bin Laden will be taken "dead or alive."

Quote

"I am truly not that concerned about him."
- G.W. Bush, responding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts, 3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

Quote

"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."
- Bush, in remarks in a Press Availability with the Press Travel Pool, The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on official White House site

His best plan has been waiting on Death to take care of Bin Laden.

Unfortunately, this has been the US plan for Castro since the Bay of Pigs and that hasn't worked very well either.

Actually the CIA has made several attempts on Castro's life, they've just failed miserably every time.

I really think if he wants it done he should go do it himself... like LEADERS..... used to do[:/]

When was this? In the time of Sparta?

George Washington comes to mind. Napoleon. King William III of England personally led his troops, too.

Mao-tse-Tung in the 20th Century.

Exactly. Who can forget Richard Nixon screaming "DIE COMMIE SCUM!" and killing Viet Cong left and right as he defended Khe Sanh from the Tet Offensive in 1968?

uh, George Washington was a general, not the leader of the Continentals. That's like saying Ike was a President who went after Nazis. One happened, then the other. Many generals have gone on to be president in our country.

Mao is an example of a resistance leader/fighter succeeding and then becoming the leader of the nation.

Not sure how to categorize Napoleon.

Uh - From 1759 to the outbreak of the American Revolution, Washington managed his lands around Mount Vernon and served in the Virginia House of Burgesses. He was a Virginia delegate to the 2nd Continental Congress. Seems to me he was a community leader who answered the call to arms.

  • Richard 3rd
  • George II

    or maybe
  • your very own Sitting Bull

Yes. I really think Richard Nixon was leading a troop of US soldiers during the defense of Khe Sanh. (He still had a little flag pin on; that's how you knew he was the president.)

I figured at least one of you was joking.
