I’ll describe it to you. It’s a clip from family guy where a guy is arguing with a mule. The mule is arguing that Kevin Bacon was not in Footloose the movie and will not change his mind no matter what the facts are.

No I didn’t ask Bill but here we go.

Hey Bill what the heck do you think Rush is talking about?

Wait a minute, I just figured it out!

Dude, why would you compare billvon to the mule? That could get you banned:P

Hey remeber when you said this

Quote

In December 2006 and March 2007, the international community passed resolutions 1737 and 1747 respectively after Iran failed to comply with UN demands to halt the enrichment of uranium or to agree to full IAEA oversight of its nuclear program. Guess that falls under "completely legal" these days.

As long as you know you’re a hypocrite I am ok with it. It’s honesty I seek to find in this world not perfection.

I do find it funny how all of you who attempted to use some sort of standard as to why a nation is a bad or evil cant seem to remain consistent. Your standards are always changed or cracked so easily and you go back to the “because I said so” argument.

As long as we know that your argument is not based on any standards or facts that’s fine. We are all allowed to have an opinion.

I don't think anyone is saying oh nooo they violated a U.N. Resolution go to war. And if you seriously want to compare the infractions of Israel including things like numerous violations for "military parades" to Iran seeking nukes while making statements about the irradication of an entire populus, and after doing so fail to see a consistent logical flow to a finding of difference between the two then clearly we will continue to have a difference of the minds.

Only he knows. Although if history is any guide, it's some variation on "republicans good, democrats bad." In this case he is probably arguing that the war is going just great, and that somehow proves that GWB was "right."

Even if that was true
Wouldn’t it be very arrogant and somewhat elitist to assume that we can make a choice that costs at minimum thousands of other people’s lives? What would give us the right to decide what’s better for a nation and what gives us the right to decide what’s an expectable loss of some other countries citizens?

Ahhhhhhhhhh you mentioned it what for fun?

The problem is the blindness that occors when it comes to the actions of us and our allies. We excuse our allies and condemn others for doing what is logical.

Why is there no out rage when Israel says they will not allow Iran to have a nuclear reactor they will bomb them? What gave them the right to tell other nations what to do?

What gives us the right?

I do think your right however that we will not agree. I still have hopes that facts are facts and humane life no matter what color, creed, religion, or culture has the same value. Obviously others believe that might makes right. Hey it worked for Rome……………oh wait it didn’t.:S

I believe the lack of outrage stems from a combination of history and numerous comments from a nations leader calling for the complete destruction of an entire nation/people. For any nations leader to make such remarks places you in the "idiotic Hitler/Stalin/Mussolini" category. The Resolution was mentioned to show that a diplomatic approach is being attempted but diplomacy will only go so far.

I think actions speak much louder then words and most politicians are full of shit.

So all I need to do is to look at the past 10,20, fuck 50, a 100 you choose years and see who has spilled more inocent blood? Who has invaded more countries? And who has started more wars?

Like I said actions speak louder then words the facts are the facts.

Right! Because, unlike him, you do not believe in the use of military force to solve problems.

Let's just all role belly up and see if someone will scratch our tummys!

No lets just keep doing the same thing over and over again and maybe we will get a different result cause you know that’s a logical out look.:S

Your right! We should. Why? Cause it is working!:o

>On what metric do you base your assertion?

Probably the silence from the media, as they have moved on to more important topics like what someone's preacher said, how expensive gasoline is and who Britney Spears is going out with.

When the "drive by media" is full of articles about Iraq, it's an example of bias in the media. When it's not, it's an indication of "how well things are going."

Here's how things are going over there if you do not confine yourself to news about Britney and oil prices:

==========
U.S. orders more air power for Afghanistan

Afghan intelligence points to Pakistani involvement in the Indian Embassy bombing; Pakistani leader denies it.

WASHINGTON - Worried about increasing insurgent attacks in Afghanistan, the U.S. military is sending extra air power there by shifting an aircraft carrier battle group away from the Iraq war.
==========
Elite soldier killed in Afghanistan

SEAN McCARTHY, the elite soldier whose life was blasted away by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on Tuesday, was only 25 but already a commended veteran.

Today would have marked seven years since he joined the Australian Army. Instead he has become the sixth Australian to be killed in Afghanistan, where the dreaded "improvised explosive devices" have accounted for many of the steadily rising number of casualties. The total now stands at 41.
===========
Six killed, 20 injured in blast in western Iraq

Jul 9, 2008, 11:46 GMT

Baghdad - A least six people were killed and 20 injured Wednesday in a twin-bomb attack outside a bank in Fallujah, the one- time hotbed of Sunni insurgency in western Iraq, according to police.
===========
Iraq insists on U.S. withdrawal timetable
Tue Jul 8, 2008 6:36pm EDT

By Ahmed Rasheed and Mohammed Abbas

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq will not accept any security agreement with the United States unless it includes dates for the withdrawal of foreign forces, the government's national security adviser said on Tuesday.

Again are you going to yet again change your standard for Evil when you are reminded that GWB mentioned he talks to god and his Christian god told him to bring democracy to the Muslims?
What about when he called 3 countries non-that had to do anything with 9-11 the axis of evil?

What about being surrounded by the country who has even said that they will even consider nuking a country that has no nukes of there own? (that was us by the way not Iran)

As for diplomacy I wish we listened to the UN because they were sure as hell right about Iraq, but as soon as the truth became inconvenient we did what we wanted anyway. The same people or sheeple who wanted to got to war did nothing but talk about how the UN is wrong and why should we listen to them.

The problem we have right now in this country is many make up their mind before they see the facts and then choose only the facts that support there point of view unwilling to even consider the other side.

We have seen what the past 8 years has done to the country with that way of thinking.
It is insanity to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results (someone smart said that). When are you people going to learn when the country is been totally crushed? Oh wait then we can blame the Mexicans.

Success vs failers. (I know here to a large extent that is a supjective view)

Who got their bills submitted and voted on and passed.

the list is very extensive but blind hatred (and blind lust I know) make some accomplishments hard to see

Honestly it sounds like your of the opinion lets all hold hands and sing Kumbayah. Genius, pure genius. I don't know why the world hasn't thought of it sooner. I feel a nobel peace prize on your way because thats a plan thats guaranteed to work. And last I checked bringing democracy to the Muslims (and in the process getting rid of a man who holds the record for first nerve gas use on civilians and combatants) still doesn't = eradication of a nation

The saddest part is we have reporters both in Iraq and Afghanistan and they can’t get their stories to go on the air. You would think the wars should still be the #1 priority. I mean yea I pay 60 bucks to fill my car up but I am not getting shot at every day. It would be nice if we got our priorities in order.

Darius,

Let's go back 100 years of U.S. history:

WW1 - US lured into war. Among other factors, the sinking of the Lucitannia comes to mind.

WW2 - US lured into war. Among other factors, the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Korea - Defending an ally from a communist aggressor.

Vietnam - Defending an ally from a communist aggressor.

Gulf War - Defending an ally from an invasion from an aggressor

Afghanistan - To remove the government that supported and aided the terrorist group that attacked us on our soil.

Iraq - First time we made the decision to invade. The reasons have been debated and still are. Some valid reasons for invasion and some not. Yes, innocent civilians lost their lives during this war. Have we forgotten the millions of innocents that lost their lives under the regime we removed?

I deliberately left out the smaller military conflicts we were involved in in the past century because they were not necessary to make my point.

By those standards, it seems that US foreign policy has not worked well, especially in the middle east.

You're right they're not doing it. The reason: The economy makes Obama seem stronger while foreign policy makes McCain look stronger. Hmmm.......

Their right to exist. Yes, your blindness for your homeland is grossly affecting your ability to view this rationally.

Iran's leader has called for the obliteration of Israel, and have pursued an illegal nuclear weapons development program, and now is making a show with missile launches.

The fact that Israel has UN resolutions against is has no bearing on the violations by Iran wrt nuclear development.

Iran is giving Israel every reason to launch a massive strike, and giving Bush more than sufficient reasons to open yet another front in his last few months. It's a very odd ploy - this sort of action works best for the bully, not for the one who will get his ass kicked. It makes me wonder if they are misunderstanding their situation, just like Hussein did in 2002. That didn't end well for him, or his country.

This is the same guy that we supported heavily when it was convenient right? And the Kurds that were killed were the people who stood by us the first time and we promised to protect. Oh yea then there were the times he used WMD on the Iranians but that was ok as well because hey we were on Sadams side.

And in case your interested I am of the opinion that we need real facts and honesty to work trough some of thoughest changes we face. I think Ignorance and the mentality of “your with us or against us” has done nothing but makes us dumber and more vulnerable.

I don’t really care if your right left or middle what I do care about is truth.

I also believe in equality if you think killing inocent people is wrong then don’t excuse it when we do it. If you think a nation is talking harshly or saying violent things don’t for get to see what are leaders have said and done.

The one thing that I hate is hypocrisy. To be just is to judge the action it self and who has committed the action should not sway the out come.
So if you think torture is wrong and would be out raged to find out that the Iranians are waterbording are solders then you should be as outraged when we are doing it to their soldiers.

It is Ethics.

Or perhaps because highlighting what's going on in Iraq and Afghanistan also highlights how US foreign policy has failed in the last seven and a half years (not that its ever been very good since WWII).
