Needing advice...

While watching the evening news together my 12 year old nephew asked me why one side got "alive people" and the other side got "dead people" in this trade. I honestly didn't have an intelligent answer for him.

Any honest insight would be appreciated.

The literal answer is that both sides got what they were asking for. The bad news there is that they were exchanging dead bodies; the good news is that no new dead bodies were created in the process.

Let's say a couple of our troops strayed across a border somewhere, got themselves into trouble and ended up dead. Let's further say that as part of your religion, it's important that members are buried in a particular way.

If it was possible to swap a few "live" people for the bodies, would you do it?

There are some people that would "publicly" say that they would "never" negotiate with terrorists, but the distinction between terrorist and "legitimate enemy" is very sketchy in the middle-east.

I would hope that OUR government would make a swap like that to return the bodies of our soldiers, but I don't know if that's been the case in the current situation in Iraq.

The Muslim terrorists highly respect people who kill Jews, and celebrate their return so they can kill some more.

I would wager there are plenty of people here with a higher IQ than me... in fact I am positive they are the ones who don't spew stupid garbage about how great America/Israel are and how benevolent/innocent America's historical role has been.

Probably due to my very non-religious and naturalist approach to things, I hardly find it worth freeing someone who mudered civilians in order to obtain dead bodies.

But aside from the main source of my bias being my opinion that dead bodies are nothing more than worm food; I think it is a huge tactical mistake. Might as well paint bull-eyes on the roofs of their civilian population that live within striking distance of a border. Not only that, but Israel has just confirmed that their soldiers, even if tortured and killed and kept on ice for a few months or years serve as currency for the enemy to buy the freedom of enemy terrorists.

Seems like an awful lot to give up so that they can stick to a religious principle and apply it to the bones of dead soldiers.
