downwardspiral 0 #76 September 6, 2008 Well thanks a lot lawrocket. Now I'm going to have to put I think or it's my opinion on everything. It's my opinion you suck and Obama isn't qualified. www.FourWheelerHB.com
lawrocket 3 #77 September 6, 2008 I think that elitism is natural. I think arrogance is natural (Fact: I'm probably better at it than most.) There are worse things. There are better things. But I think there are also LEVELS of elitism. There's "i think billvon is an arrogant elitist." There is, "Billvon is an arrogant elitist." And there are levels beyond that. "Billvon is an arrogant elitist because he went to MIT." "Billvon thinks that just because he's a world record holder with patents he knows everything." Finally - I think a lot of people should lighten up. A politician HAS to be elitist. By definition, they have policies that they think will do some good. McCain is an elitist. Obama is an elitist. Even my own fool self is an elitist, when I'm not engaged in self-hatred. I hate myself more than you hate yourself, spiral. You should try it sometime. Anyone who doean't hate himself or herself is so self-unaware that he or she cannot be intelligent... My wife is hotter than your wife.
kallend 2,106 #78 September 6, 2008 Some of us are PAID for our opinions. (I even get to pass judgment on students' work). Does that make us elitist?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

rushmc 23 #80 September 6, 2008 Quote Some of us are PAID for our opinions. (I even get to pass judgment on students' work). Does that make us elitist? No, not if you judge (measurably) their work. Yes, if you use the threat of a grade if you disagree with an opinion."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." lawrocket 3 #81 September 6, 2008 No. I provided an express exception for it being a job. In your engineering teaching job, do you grade on the subjective or objective? Subjective: "But PRofessor KAllend, I worked really hard and feel I studied well." Objective: "You scored 63%. That's a 'D.'" My wife is hotter than your wife. Although you are correct in saying you hate yoursefl more than I hate myself because I'm a narcissistic bastard. www.FourWheelerHB.com
lawrocket 3 #84 September 6, 2008 Quote Quote "But Professor Kallend, I worked really hard and feel I studied well." Are you bugging my office? No. I just have a little experience in that department, as well.I've had a little while longer to think about it, and here's the deal - if somebody asks you for your opinion and you give it - or if it is your job to give those opinions - in that relationship you are considered "elite." If, on the other hand, you volunteer and opinion that is not really asked for, then it would be "elitist." My wife asked me whether I liked the new shirt she got. I told her I did, but I thought the fabric was a little thin. Had I told her, "That shirt is skanky" then there would be a different situation. Of course, sometimes elitism with your spouse is a really nice tool for self discovery. Tell your wife something is wrong with her in an elitist fashion, i.e., "You ass is looking fat" and I'm sure she'll respind in kind by informing you of all kinds of things about yourself you didn't know. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Anyone who tries that line with me gets the lecture about great engineering disasters and why we don't want to graduate incompetent engineers. They also get the stony face, for which there doesn't seem to be an icon here.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
