Palin's Church Promotes Gay Conversion

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Sept. 8) - Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

Meaningless? Well, only directly. I mean, yeah, we could pull a "Rev. Wright" on her, but the thing is this: if McCain's campaign think they're gonna woo away disaffected female Hillary supporters with this Stepford Wife, my wife says they're kidding themselves. (And she's...you know, always right.) So far, all she's done is energize the GOP's conservative base, and they were going to vote for McCain anyway.

Saying that Palin speaks in tongues and handles snakes is just as ridiculous as saying Obama is a practicing Muslim.

There was a time when the media would report a candidates religious affiliation with some reverence, but these days the Jerry Springer news media has to report all the rantings of every religious nut in every slimy corner of the gene pool.
Geesh - find some real news and report on it.

This is spin for spin's sake.

You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality,"

All they're doing is offering people who want it some help. I'm sure people who are comfortable with being gay will flock to this event :S

but early in her administration she supported a bill to overrule a court decision to block state benefits for gay partners of public employees.

No news here...move along.

So?

Do you not think prayer is harmless to a non-believer?

Some Muslims want to kill the non-believer. Which would you rather have running around?

it seems some really like to get their panties in a bundle over somthing of little or no effect

Or maybe some here want to start up (yet again) some kind of thought police:S

So? Obama's church (of more than 20 years) hates white people, and wants God to damn America. :S
So? Plenty of white, right-wing preachers say God should damn America too. Hagee, Pat Robertson, Falwell have all spouted crap about how America deserved 9/11 or Katrina because God is punishing us for homos & pornography.
:S Hagee actuallly wants to plunge us into a nuclear WWIII so that Jesus will come.:S:S

why the hell do people get freaked out when a black preacher says it, but not when its a white, right-leaning preacher?

Some Christians love to put a finger in a donkey’s ass what’s your point? We are not talking about some random someone but a person who could easily become the leader of a free country. It has happened before.

She believes in abstinence, a policy that simply unrealistic as she can plainly see maybe not she does not seem like the type that facts would change her mind.

You can pray the gay away? That’s strike two maybe 10 she has a lot of them. I want a rational person in any office that may become president.

Every thing I have seen from her says she is a religious nut. The more I learn about her the more I dislike her.

A big difference is she seems proud of her religious right ways. She is a pick for the base I doubt she will make a speech about how she believes in science, sexual education, Evolution, etc(all things factual).
If she does great.
Anyone who believes they have the right to tell a woman she has to keep the baby of her rapist is nuts IMHO.

The list is long, and there is more coming out everyday. The research was never done properly or in the usual manner that it is done when selecting a VP. Huge mistake for McCain.

yea...because she attends a church you think she will take ALL of their beliefs and practices to heart?
I haven't seen anything saying SHE prays the gay away....a LOT of churches believe this way.
She's a parent...ALL parent believe their children should practice abstinence.;)

all of this "research" coming out about Palin is no different than the stuff about Obama The Great.

You can pray the gay away? That’s strike two maybe 10 she has a lot of them. I want a rational person in any office that may become president. Again, what are you afraid of? Seems a little irrational to me!

Every thing I have seen from her says she is a religious nut. The more I learn about her the more I dislike her.then stop going to Dem underground , daily kos, CBS NBC ABC CNN and the like. People like you seem to think anybody that is a Christian is a nut:S

Sorry, she is the perfect choice. Many things are showing that and for your "more is coming out every day" generalization? LOL.

The "she was not selected properly" story line is just what the Dems want/need put out there.

The correctness of any choice (party speciific) is invers to the level of hell being raised by the other party. The Dems are scarred to death of her. Not because she is religious nut, but because she is in the mainstream of this country and a threat to their self claimed right to power:)

But most are intelligent enough and have the judgment to know better and teach their kids.

You just made my point. Judgment based on facts. That’s what I want not someone who talks to god, and not another religious nut.

And we do teach our kids...well most of us anyway.
Amazing thing about kids....they are their own individual and no matter what they are taught, they WILL realize someday that they are capable of making their own decisions whether or not they agree with mom and dad's thoughts....
I've always thought that was the hardest part of being a parent. Knowing when to shut up, get out of their way, and let them make their own decision and mistake.

Hell, there is crap being twisted for Palin and the stuff that is the truth about Obama is being ignored by the media so this mesia can get into office:S

Not that shit has not been twisted about Obama but not nearly to the same degree

I believe in abstinence too. What does that make me? Difference *may* be, that I don't bury my head in the sand and think that it's the _only_ solution, and therefore support other solutions too.

Instead of saying 'rational,' don't you mean "someone who thinks like I do?"

I suspect *most* rational people would agree with that statement.;)

Palin is better (IMO) than Romney, but not by much. If McCain had chosen Romney, I'd have no choice. Not that there is much of one now.

A couple of things:
A rape victim: Why should a innocent person DIE (the unborn child) because someone else did something wrong?
Also, if one murders a pregnant persone they are charged for the murder of two so even according to the law abortion should be murder.

As for palin's congregation praying for gays: They would be praying for them out of compassion and care beause they want everyone to be saved.
Acts 26:29And Paul said, "I would wish to God, that whether in a short or long time, not only you, but also all who hear me this day, might become such as I am, except for these chains."
God loves everyone but, as you can see here, not everyone will be saved. Thats according to God, not palin or the congregation she attends. But, just like God, she and her congregation cares for all people and wants everyone to be saved and, as a result, they pray for them. Once, again, it is out of love and compassion for all people that they pray.

Also, abstinence is not an unrealistic idea. All because some cannot restrain themselves doesn't mean nobody can!

Finally, simply because someone attends church and beleives in God does not make them a nut. Science ultimately points to a creator as it is simply inescapable.

I really dont think the GOP chose her to gain acceptance with women. I think it was a very obvious selection to appease the far right conservatives of the party who though McCain was too centrist for them.

SO? What are you afraid of?

I am afraid of the religious right taking over this country. If you think she was not selected to make the base the religious right happy then I have a bridge to sell you.
I am afraid of someone who as described by the maybe future first lady has foreign policy experience because she lives close to Russia. I am afraid that people will once again vote out of fear, or sacrifice their country because they want to force their personal beliefs down everyones throat.

Evidence.

Also most people who believe in abstinence do because of religious reasons. This is not a monarchy where your religious policy can be made in to government policy. At least it shouldn’t be.

You find it irrational that I don’t want a religious extremist as the VP?
She can be the VP of the Vatican not the USA not for me. I value The Constitution too much.

Abstinence = nuts
Not believing in evolution = nuts or stupid
Thinking someone who has been raped by her father should not have the right to an abortion = Fucking insane.

Or is all of that just the dems making it up?

Did i miss something
Is she pro sexual education, Condoms, Science, and choice?

I don’t think it’s paranoia.
I wonder how the right would have acted if one of Obamas daughters were pregnant at the age of 17 out of wed lock?

I am sure every one would just rejoice about how brave she is.
The religious right is a definition of hypocrisy. The same people who have made everyone’s personal business their business for the so long now say oh we shouldn’t talk about her daughter.

I don’t know about you but if my daughter would come home pregnant out of wed lock at 17 I would consider it a failure.

Just becomes something is more prevalent doesn’t make it right, specially if there is a chance you will be the leader of the free world.
I don’t want someone to have a beer with I am sick of avrage. I want someone exceptional, educate, and logical.

You have nothing to back up your paranioa in this country. Cause if anything, it is the relious that are scorned vilified and persacuted here by the left. Understandabel though, relious positions are those of personal responsibilities. Some of the iconic positions of the left cant stand up to self responsibility.

That’s another thread. You can read what I have written.
We disagree. I just can’t imagine the audacity to look in to a 13-14 year olds eye. Who has been rapped by a family member and say hey it’s not over your going to have to put your life on hold and have the baby. Yes the baby of the horrible person who raped you it’s the LAW.
I don’t believe anyone has that right.

You know that’s insulting to me a straight dude. I am sure there are plenty of Gay people who don’t feel they need to be saved from something wrong. I am sure there not sitting there feeling like they have a disease.

That’s a great idea.

I can hear the conversation now. What Abstinence has failed miserable but worked for a small percentage great idea lets make it mandatory for all.

I don’t know about you but religious ideas have no place in policy. Abstinence is a religious idea.
